Today … I asked a number of people about this poem (i don’t usually go around quoting poetry to people!) … None of the people I spoke to had ever heard of it before … anyone else familiar with it?
So -> student friendly versions etc are here
I'm sharing as I know most will want to print and hand out and it doesn't need to be 25+ pages long!
I've set up some folders if you have resources you'd like to share too .. DM me
Parents home schooling ... a gentle reminder .. don’t forget to read out the announcements, hand out detention slips/letters/ library book reminders and take your register within the first 10 minutes of tutor time tomorrow. Too many of you forgot to do it this morning.
So
@GillianKeegan
a question for you … reduce workload by 5 hours a week you say? how on earth do you think that’ll happen ? Start of the Easter break and I’ve spent about 12 hours marking year 11 mocks as there’s no time in the working week. Come spend a week with me!
Maths teachers of twitter. A plea. No matter what paper 1 looks like our students need us to be upbeat and positive with a view to papers 2 & 3 - don’t join in the twitter bashing of questions and papers until after paper 3. It’s not what is needed right now.
#mathsgcse
So this happened last night …. 3 years in the making!!
A revision guide/workbook/study guide aimed at the crossover content - the stuff your foundation students need & the stuff the higher students need too!

Practice papers for paper 2 will be done by this evening for all boards. Don’t badger me ... trust they will be done and they will be. Just need to get home first. Check twitter feed for updates.
Every student will need this in September and it will be ready and available for then …
READY = how to
SET = AO1 / process Qs
GO = AO2/AO3 .. problem solving / reasoning Qs
nearly 3 years in the making.
Some tips for tomorrow’s maths exam
1. Show your working out
2. Have a go at EVERY question - don’t leave a question blank
3. Keep checking/working until someone says “pens down” ... it’s really not cool to say you’ve finished after 20 minutes!!
4. Show your working out !!
They’re CENTRE assessed grades not teacher assessed grades ... the clue is in the name
#CAGs
yes teachers had a huge part to play but not the final decision.
#justsaying
As always this comes with a health warning ... I have frequency analysis etc but I am not an examiner & so rather than share that & try to second guess ... heres some "hit lists" of stuff that hasnt come up .. something to focus on without being dangerous in the wrong hands!
Maths teachers … looking to include something in home learning packs?
We're giving free access to our RAG function to allow students / teachers to generate alternate "therapy" papers for students based on mock scores (paper dependent!)
#mathschat
Current work in progress ... Reformatting on one page showing whats on each tier and when ... (also have a query on the F tier which I've asked about) ... Then gonna cross check against the revision guide too ... doesn't seem like any biggies are missing at first glance!)
To everyone who thinks teachers have it/have had it easy I’m not rising to your click bait instead I’ll say one thing: Come and spend a day in the classroom with me. Genuine offer & I’m sure others would welcome you too
#cometeachwithme
Don’t mull over P1 … when they come up we need to focus on P2 and P3 … bumper practice papers will be on JMOnline by 9am tomorrow (maybe sooner) to get out to students on emails etc over the weekend.
We are celebrating Ofsted judging the school as ‘Good’ across all areas. We’re so proud of our North family and the support of the local community recognising that with strong exam results and superb pastoral care, no wonder we are over-subscribed for September!

@mrdanwalker
@GavinWilliamson
Dan do us a favour ... if they are called “teacher” assessed grades tomorrow ... please correct whoever says it ... they are CENTRE assessed grades. The clue is in the name !
Looking at the formula sheets and getting students used to them (or not as the case may be) ... putting together some slides called "tick or trash" ... will write a blog post over the weekend to elaborate ... don't @ me with your hate! I just don't care ..
Seen some comments about holiday sessions slating planning … for me these sessions have never been about delivering content they’re about showing kids we’re invested too. It’s all about relationships. Don’t @ me as I don’t care for your opinions
1 and 2 mark collection of (mainly AO1) questions for the high frequency topics from Edexcel is now complete and 25 sheets are available in the essentials tab of the teacher toolkit … I'm gonna print as a booklet for Easter homework!
First observation is ... its 25 pages long! That needs formatting on 2 separate docs (H & F) ... then reduced in size ... 25 pages will be longer than most kids' revision notes! I'm on it!
Looking for something to focus on for the next (LAST!!) Maths exam? Here's a list for Edexcel ...I've put this "hitlist" and "Bumper" practice papers in the teachertoolkit of JustMaths Online ... will share wider tonight! Other boards on the way
#gcsemaths

Looking for something to focus on for the next Maths exam? Here's a list for Edexcel ...we have plenty of time till the next exam which is why we've put together "bumper" practice papers .. already on JMONline and will share more widely this evening on a blog post.

So I've had a delve into the data tables from the performance tables
& came across some KS2 to KS4 transition stuff ...
I've pulled it together for maths ...
First up -> all pupils & below it
non disadvantaged & disadvantaged
1 of several ...
How can it be Christmas already ??? Wasn’t it only March yesterday ?? So from me ... I’m toasting to teachers with one of my 3 Tesco’s ‘put a bottle of champagne in the basket when reserving the slot’ bottles. (Yes I forgot to remove it three times!!). Merry Christmas x
My to do list grows:
1: Working on 5 quick questions for each topic ... calling it "Take 5"
2. Updating the breakfast work outs at some point prior to May!
2. Pull together some "practice" papers ... (not calling them best guess)
After a manic week - email just sent letting JMOnline'rs know that the breakfast workouts/last minute revision sheets are now available in the essentials tab of the teachers toolkit! Suitable for all boards … same for paper2 and paper3 will be tailored the specific exam boards
Wonder if the maths teachers sat behind me on a train are on Twitter? If so ... I can hear you!! Just overheard talking about the JustMaths website and my blog ... don’t worry it was all good stuff they’re saying. Wanted to pop my head over the seat and say “hello” 🤗
Just writing up a blog post about this "dividing fractions" thread -> and came across an old fractions revision w/sheet that I've tidied up ... should I add to the blog post?
Seriously. Anyone calling for exam reform needs to get in the sea. Come back in 12 months. At the coalface teachers are up their nuts in CAGs /TAGs & coping with a pandemic & if the only people involved in reform are non-teachers then that’s just wrong so back off.
#endofrant
Year 9s log onto maths early to have a chat ... I don't usually read it ... today they're talking about how much they miss school and the classroom ... one just wrote "you don't value a moment until it's a memory" 😍😍😍😍😍
So I got flowers today … not just any flowers … Lego flowers … yep you read that correctly! They are lovely and the best flowers that I can remember being given 😉
@finty22
More practice papers and lists than you can shake a stick at … and a little rant … don't like the idea, don't use 'em ... no-ones forcing you to do anything ....

Seriously people ... who in their right mind leaks the grade boundaries?? If you’re in a position of responsibility and do this you’re just plain in the wrong! We’re supposed to be professionals and more importantly nothing to be gained by the kids seeing them before thurs!
#FFS
The strike action was not just about pay ...
the fact that any offer is to come from EXISTING budgets means we HAVE to vote to reject the offer.
That would mean massive cuts at the coalface ... we can't recruit as it is. This is the perfect storm.
Book launch alert! We’ll be having a virtual book launch at some point ... get a copy of the “thing” and spend a couple of hours online having a bit of maths fun ... more news soon
#mathschat
Dear DFE. With announcements about next year due soon … please please please treat the profession with respect. Don't treat us like idiots and make sweeping statements … we will find out where the students are at and plan accordingly … this is what we do every year … 1/n
GCSE Maths /Tiering ... a thread. Should probably be a blog post ... I'm getting more and more enquiries about the make up of the exams. Maybe we should do a "GCSE 9-1 Maths ... from their inception to now" online course ... so briefly
1. DFE / Ofqual oversee the process ....
I survived my first term at a new school …
did I thrive? I don’t know.
I did it though and I’m pretty proud of that.
But for now … a takeaway and a little glass of something … for those in the same boat: I salute you!
How many of you calling for the return of course actually remember coursework?? IMO it was boll*&*ks … at least in maths! Some great tasks but not for a gateway qualification.
Currently working on multiple (lots and lots of topics!!) 60 second online key skills challenges for the 1 and 2 mark questions at the start of the foundation tier ... busting to get this out there.
