Teachers in Australia are given 1.5 months of long service leave for every 5 years they work in education. You can bank it for a super holiday! i.e 10 years = 3 months!
Should this be a worldwide initiative? Could be helpful to keep teachers from burn out/quitting? Thoughts? 🤔

Look at these two giggly superstars tracking & catching the naughty mouse in Reception PE today! They had to trap the mouse 5 times before scooting back further away 🐀
Very interesting to see pupils core strength vary across the cohort. Will be adding more stability games! 🏄🏻

How I like to start a lot of my
#PrimaryPE
lessons: “Grab something from the box of tricks and show me what you can do…”
Opens up so many avenues, teachable moments and you’ll often find the lesson goes somewhere completely different than you had planned…and that’s ok!!

How long do your Nursery PE lessons take to set up? Mine take 678763 minutes and 56633 pieces of kit 😜
Wouldn’t have it any other way though!

Our first 2 weeks of PE this year will be focused on:
💬⚡️CONNECTIONS NOT CONTENT 🙅🏼♂️
So important to connect with pupils after the holidays, build routines, settle in new pupils, learn names,….I could go on!
How do you start the new academic year?
Quarantine completed and finally arrived at our new home. I must confess, this photo was taken after nipping to grab some celebratory beers! Our new townhouse on site is absolutely stunning. Harrow have been so, so welcoming! Delighted to be here!

How do I start EVERY EYFS PE lesson?
🚨Pick Up and Play!
I carefully select equipment, linked to our broad objectives to allow the pupils to immediately come in and be active! A great way to start ANY lesson for ANY age to be honest!!
Need an instant activity for a Striking and Fielding lesson?
👏Clap Catch - How many claps can you complete in between the throw and catch?
📶Self Differentiation through choice of ball 🎾⚽️🏉
🎮Double your claps with one handed catch

Unfortunately COVID has dashed our move to Singapore & my dream job 🇸🇬 But I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason & I am exteremely grateful that my current school also want me to stay. There are plenty of people far worse off at this time.Singapore 2021?!🤞

Very proud to be appointed as Head of Primary/Lower School PE from August here at Harrow Bangkok.
First point of call is curriculum, curriculum, curriculum. Really looking forward to making some meaningful changes to our pupils.
4 teaching days left then 🏝🛫🇫🇷🇦🇺🇹🇭
I have had to remind myself of this many times when preparing for or reflecting after lessons this term. Certainly looking to add increased opportunities for social skills & collaboration in PE. How have you adapted your teaching so far since returning? More or less of what?
EYFS Race Cars 🚘🚖
🫂Collaboration and Turn Taking - 1 child completes a lap whilst partner balances in the garage, then swap.
♻️Adapt to any Locomotion or Stability activity
🔢Add a dice to determine laps or balance
🎭Thematic Story
📶Add variety of obstacles on the course
🎲🎲 Dice Tag
Taggers carry a foam dice. Tag an opponent, roll the dice and then the number (in this case) depicts an exercise.
Number on the dice could determine number of catches, locomotion movements etc
Then swap roles!
Had some 20 sided die which the kids LOVED too! 🎲
Great to have all staff back on site today for INSET. Shared my curriculum vision for Lower School PE with the team. Will take time to get it right but I’m looking forward to the process and leading the dept into a new phase!
Year 4 began their Striking & Fielding unit by playing small sided variations of:
🥏Frisbee Throwball
⚽️Kickball
🏏Cricket
🎾Teeball
They then created a collaborative mind map to explore all of the concepts and skills that they came across. Really successful HOOK lesson! 🎣😀
Our Head of Football has done an outstanding job preparing for the Harrow Youth Cup today! How good does that grass look?! Going to be a HOT but superb day! 800 players and 70 teams arriving soon! ⚽️🏆

One of the toughest weeks I’ve had in a long, long time. Personally and at work. But gotta keep smiling and a good walk is the best way to clear the head!
We go again 💪
🚨What did I learn from my first day as a Brit in an Aussie school?
Kids at my school say Scissors, Paper, Rock instead of Rock, Paper, Scissors!!
Australia really is upside down! 🙃🙃
🪨📄✂️
I feel very passionately about this. I was a very, very average sportsman but god I still loved to be active and play sports! (Even now with no ACL!!). My previous playing level doesn’t define me as a PE teacher though. Attitude wins EVERY-TIME!
Move, Balance, Land in full swing today for Year 2.
Count myself very lucky to deliver lessons in this gymnastics facility here at Harrow.

An amazing school with an incredible history. Looking forward to teaching in my first IB school! 👨🏫 Great to be able to continue to develop as an educator! 🤙
Year 6 Cricket Club - Added ‘No Ball’ tees with balls on top so that a) Pupils could have a visual representation of the space they were bowling into and b) Batters could have a free hit off the tee if a ‘No Ball’ incurred.

School closed for 4 weeks, I think I’m going to go crazy! Going to try and keep my Pre-Prep pupils as active as I can through remote learning! All very surreal...
#distancelearning
At least I can hit the gym like crazy 🏋🏼♂️
🪫🔋Recharging over the holidays in Taiwan with hiking and way too much food! Taroko Gorge has really taken my breath away though, simply stunning! Something magical about being up in the mountains. ⛰️🏔️
Year 2 Gamification of Cricket 🎮🏏
🧠Pupils created bowling scoring system ➕ 1 point if bowled with a bounce, 2 if between goal, 10 for the wicket and 100(!) for knocking down the stumps!
🏏 We progressed to adding in a batter to prevent the bowler scoring points!

Y3 Balloon Tennis 🎈- focus on KINDNESS & SELF-WORTH.
- Play Everyone
- Agree whether game will be competitive or collaborative
- After the game, write what your opponent’s SUPERPOWER was
Watching the pupils see what others had written about them was very special indeed 🪄😁
Online PE again. I'm getting some deja-vu! 🦠
If anyone has any new and interesting concepts for online PE, I would be all ears and happy to share some resources out too!
🚨In completely unrelated PE news - we welcomed Arlo into the family yesterday! He’s going to be the most 𝙋𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 Labradoodle there ever was! 🐶
How do you build relationships with a new class, in a new school, in PE, ONLINE? Play ‘Who is Mr Shields?’ workout quiz on Zoom with GIFs/Google Slides. Pupils also told me their answers to the questions so we all got to know each other!
