@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA Which, as I said, is a lot better than most government agencies. Look, if you want to go back to the good old days when the government was run by a bunch of chickenshit, God bless you. I'd prefer not to. The folks I worked with did a lot of good. I'd like to see them keep it up.

@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA I worked there during the previous Trump Administration. I'm elsewhere now. As for the cost analysis, the agency draws an $800 million budget from the Fed and has returned $20 billion to working people. That's a better ROI than most government agencies.

@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA Sure, buddy. Definitely haven't done much research into this. 🤣 None at all. 😂

@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA I'm well aware of it. I've yet to see how Glass-Steagall is relevant to regulators not doing their jobs. They weren't all that great at enforcing consumer protection laws pre-GLBA (which repealed Glass-Steagall btw) either. It just wasn't a priority for them.

@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA Glass-Steagall doesn't explain why the regulators did not use their authority to crack down on predatory lending. Instead, the OTS and OCC went out of their way to try to preempt state predatory lending laws.

@Johndoe1412934 @jonesjay @ShannonTaylorVA And not a damned one of them did their job or do you forget when folks could walk into a mortgage company and get a mortgage on stated income?

@GibertLisa12034 Then why does the CFPB have rulemaking authority? It was clearly created to write new rules. Which consumer agency are you talking about? The FTC? It doesn't have authority over banks. Check 15 USC 45(a)(2). As for the states, many don't have the resources to take on Wall Street

@GibertLisa12034 Yes. Which is why the CFPB was created - to prevent the same kind of relaxed regulatory environment that created the Financial Crisis.

@GibertLisa12034 If it is so redundant, please explain the widespread predatory lending in the mortgage market that led to the 2007-08 Financial Crisis. I'm all ears.

@BreRVA It has stood squarely on the side of working families. It's one of the few government agencies that you can say still actually works for the people. That's why they hate it so much, because it tips the scales back towards the people and away from the robber barons.

@millennial_debt @CFPB Yeah, I don't think they're grasping how absolutely fucked up this situation is.

@teevirus This. I'm tired of Vichy Democrats thinking that a strongly worded letter with a cute hashtag meets this moment.

@Lawl_Assoc I've had this conversation with my mortgage company once or twice. It is the most frustrating thing in the world. I'm sorry that you're going through this.
