Catch is a drill, not a "warm up." The teams that play better catch are often the teams that play cleaner baseball. Stop rushing through it. Have a purpose. Those that get "bored" during catch are those that don't understand the importance of it and aren't mentally engaged during it. Play catch with a purpose!

Coach: Are your pitchers backing up bases? Are your corner infielders moving to the proper cut off positions to home plate with runners in scoring position? Are your catchers backing up 1B with nobody on or a runner on 1B? Are your outfielders moving themselves based on who's on mound, who's in the box and using previous swings to determine adjustments? Are your players playing the game? By the time they become teenagers and the amount of practices they’ve had and games these kids are playing each season, these should all be instinctual fundamentals.

In our game, sensitive doesn’t work. Soft emotionally doesn’t work. Feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t work. Fearing pain doesn’t work. Feeling embarrassed doesn’t work. If your opponent can get in your head, get you frustrated, make you fearful, they will have the advantage. Once they get in your head you stop thinking clearly, become reactive and become very beatable. Mental weakness doesn’t last in our game.
