I don’t think they would have a case against the PL. Governing bodies are allowed to charge any club if they genuinely think there is a case, the verdict doesn’t equal compensation. If you’re charged with a crime and found innocent you don’t then get compensation from the CPS.

Unless they have evidence of the premier league having ulterior motives or something else sinister then I doubt they would have a case. Simply being found innocent isn’t grounds, they’d have to show the PL acted dishonestly on bringing these charges.

No, it just means the case hasn’t been proven, and it doesn’t automatically entitle Man City to compensation. It’s exactly the same as someone who is found innocent on a court of law, they aren’t automatically entitled to compensation from the CPS. You’d have to prove bad faith.

What do you mean ‘the way they charged’ them? Their case against the premier league is not defamation or strictly related to this, it’s about other rules around sponsorship which were introduced in 2021.

No, a jury decides the verdict in a criminal case, the CPS brings the charges and is the accuser. In this situation, the PL would be the equivalent of the CPS. As I said, if you’re acquitted in court, you don’t get compensation from the cps, apart from exceptional circumstances.

They’re entitled to bring charges if they think there’s sufficient evidence to prove it. If they’re wrong or the case isn’t proven then that doesn’t amount to defamation.
