Nobody should suggest the Giants have anyone to blame but themselves. But if you condone what Doug Pederson did tonight, you understand zero about sports. Zero.
So a kid who goes to, for example, NFA with 2,000 other kids is at less risk in school than in a theoretically empty gym playing basketball against 9 other players, 3 refs and few coaches. Of course.
Potential MLB history tonight. Jesse Hahn (bullpen) followed Matt Harvey (starter) in the Royals game. Might be the first time two guys not just from the same high school, but the exact same high school team (2005, 2006, 2007 Fitch) followed each other. Trying to find out.
BREAKING: sources at UConn say the remaining football coaches were told last week they will not be returning for next year and will be given a 6 month severance package. Coaches getting official letters this week. More to come

UConn men and women delivered more than 208,000 fans to downtown Hartford this year over 15
@XLCenter
games, not to mention today’s throng. And yet our pom pom waving politicos can’t fix the 49-year old downtown home of the 17-time national champions. Pathetic.
rumors about Shea Ralph appear to be true. Headed to Vandy - hubby Tom Garrick headed there with her. I’m told the announcement is later this week, perhaps Wednesday

It is rare I make requests of my alma mater. But I’m begging
@BCFootball
to dump UConn next year and play East Carolina instead. Oh, the impending joy.
Good news here for
@BCFootball
… source close to the program says Castellanos, Robichaux and Bond are staying. No plans to transfer whatsoever. Source says that seems to be the way the wind is blowing for most of them.
And somehow, thousands of kids were allowed to go to school today in Connecticut. Amid thousands of other kids. No germs there. But to play a basketball game in an empty gym? As Kurtz said at the end of "Heart of Darkness," "The horror! The horror!" Pathetic.

So. The mea culpa. Before this tournament, I thought Dan Hurley was better at assembling a roster than coaching it. I stand corrected. (Neither the first nor the last time.) Congrats to all the UConn folks. Now go win the damn thing.
I am loving the well deserved attention for
@UConnBSB
in recent days. Very happy for Jim Penders and his staff. Among the best coaches and people on campus. No drama, no bluster. Just results.
Jealous of the state of Minnesota today. Three Frozen Four teams. Home of
@paigebueckers1
and Jalen Suggs. Oh, and
@Lindsay_13
of course. Goodness gracious. The other 49 states have some work to do
Ok. Full disclosure. I was in a bar tonight with the UConn game on. When Bueckers subbed in, I gave her a standing O. People looked at me funny, sure. But it felt right.
Today is the anniversary of my favorite sporting event I ever saw live: UConn 77, Duke 74. Press seat right behind UConn bench. A few seconds in, Jake Voskhul gets called for a nickel dimer. Jim C whips around and goes, “The Duke rules are in effect!” Priceless.
So happy for
@clingan_donovan
! Told more than 20 per schools no thanks to stay in his town and win a state title with his friends. Sometimes, things end just as they should.
#ctbb
Very proud of BC. Yesterday, Jeff Hafley made sure the football team stayed on the field after the game as the Army band played its alma mater; Greg Brown made sure the hockey team was on the ice to salute Quinnipiac's banner raising ceremony.
@BCFootball
@BC_MHockey
Cliff Robinson story: the late, great Randy Smith, columnist and the JI, told this once of Cliff. Randy wrote a critical column of him at UConn. Went to do a piece on him later in the NBA. Cliff looks at him and goes, “I remember you. How do you like my shit now?”
Ok. I’ve seen as much bullshit about
@BC_MHockey
as I can take. Historic year. Historic. Epically talented. Fun ride. But this is hockey. The hot goalie is a thing. And - like it or not - Denver beat us twice. Shut up, tip your cap and move on.
If anybody - and I mean anybody - thinks this
@HartfordHawks
story is over, you are sadly mistaken. Now is the time to act. Get Woodward out. Now. Not one more dime.
UConn hoops, with 16 combined titles, has put butts in the seats at the XL Center - in need of repair - for years. Politicos kick the can down the road repeatedly. But now with the mere potential of the NHL, fixing the XL is suddenly more important than a lung? Embarrassing.
Boston College has: swept ND in men’s hoops last year. Beat ND two of three in baseball. Swept ND in men’s hoops again this year. Swept ND in hockey. Ah, the world is a beautiful place.
Nice chatting with (most) of you. All ball busting aside: I hope UConn fans enjoy tonight. It hasn’t been an easy ride. I get it. Meanwhile, I’m going to find a bar to have vodka mixed with cyanide
The
@UConnFootball
program needs to explain why players weren’t available to the media after the Fresno game. You want adulation in victory? You accept the responsibility of defeat. Nobody in this state can name 5 players on this team as it is. Time we got to know them.
#UConn
Rough weekend for the “nobody cares about BC sports” crowd. Conte Forum sold out for basketball yesterday; sold out for hockey today. And we have Bill O’Brien. So there.
Unsolicited opinion from a guy who has watched lousy basketball since Al Skinner left: I’ll take Dan Hurley as my coach any day of the week. The idea some of these dopes are turning on him illustrates how limited they really are.
This year, the
@BCFootball
defense has allowed 0, 7 and 3 points in the second half all 3 games. That’s called making an adjustment. We’re not used to it. Glad we have Jeff Hafley!
OK. My hotel room view from the Newton Marriott is of the Charles River and foliage.
@BCFootball
with a great win last night. Dinner in Boston tonight with the boys. I haven’t been in a good mood this long since never.
#wearebc
Observation: Neither BC not Pitt have much to play for. But one team is locked in. The other checked out. Major points for Earl Grant. Lots to look forward to in this program.
@BCMBB
I’m fired up here in CT. Next year, UConn men continue to build. The women will be a wagon. Hopefully, Gampel and the XL full again. Good for business here
@TheDayCTsports
. Before this tweet ends, should out to
@vickieattheday
and
@GavinKeefe
for superb beat work this year!
Per
@joezonewfsb
the CIAC votes to stick with original plan - abbreviated fall schedule. Note to all you kids and parents who want to make sure there’s a season: wear masks and encourage others to do so
Ok. So I love all my BC people. But this BC baseball story is as good as it gets for us. Twenty wins already, 8-4 in the ACC. Every ACC program has a million advantages over us. And we keep winning.
@BCBirdBall
If anybody knows Geno, they know he’s the happiest guy in America right now. He will hold today over their heads for 4 months and get more mileage out of it than a Toyota Corolla
Why does Georgetown have “a higher upside” than Providence? I get the history. But current events: Pro sports market in Washington, cavernous home court vs. a more invested fan base in Providence with cozier home arena. Not like Providence hasn’t ever sent kids to the NBA either.
Great story from today's 15-inning win by East Lyme: Winning pitcher Nate Licitra, who worked 8.1 innings of scoreless relief, had to take a Zoom call for some scholarship-related money behind the dugout while EL was hitting in the 10th. Only in a pandemic.
#ctbase
Ledyard High AD/assistant principal Jim Buonocore on spring football: "I believe we have enough support to bring that option back. We'd need the board of control to approve. But I'm getting a strong feeling that there's interest across the state for 11v11 in 2nd semester."
Just remember BC fans: some of us have been scolded by a few athletic department toadies for being too negative on Twitter. Let me just say: You deliver us an embarrassing product. This is a recording.
So ...
@bc_wbb
just beat Duke, has 20 wins, won 9 of 11, won at Georgia Tech, has a better RPI than Georgia Tech and more wins - and GT is more worthy of an NCAA bid? I think not.
Great night for CT HS sports! Not only did Cromwell/Portland and Valley/Old Lyme plan an instant classic, but the game featured 2 Black head coaches (Randell Bennett, Hill Gbunblee) and a Black head referee. Maybe you don’t see it as a big deal. But it’s called progress.
#cthsfb
Today’s fraudulent national media narrative: Caitlin Clark is the GOAT because she’s doing this with no talent around her at Iowa and Diana Taurasi had Sue Bird, etc. at UConn. All except for the 2003 natty during which Taurasi’s point guard was Maria Conlon, for Christ’s sake.
It would appear my tweets have drawn the ire of a St Joe’s assistant coach, who yelled across the field after the game, “keep tweeting” and “keep your shit to yourself.” Oh, well. Viva schools of choice!
#ctbase
BREAKING: One may actually stay in high school and get major college offers. No, really. Per
@SPBowley
, Donovan Clingan at Bristol Central is a "4-star recruit who holds approximately 20 offers from major Division I college programs." And all without prep school. Who knew?
#ctbb
I am privileged to have a media credential to Nova v BC tomorrow night at Mohegan. Question: if
@BCMBB
wins, will I look ridiculous (or get arrested) for storming the court? Discuss.
I’ll say this. I know UConn fans don’t like me. And I’m not about to send you people Christmas cards either. But I’m truly appreciating this run by men’s hoops. Because it is truly about TEAM. The individual stuff is noteworthy, but back burner. That counts in my little world.
More CIAC info: football maxes out at 8 games, a combo of regular season and postseason. Other sports (such as soccer) max out at 14. All coming out tomorrow, but there is your sneak peak. Don’t forget to subscribe to
@thedayct
On behalf of all BC sports … would like to thank Providence for its hospitality. Basketball advances at the AMP (and ends Providence’s season) and hockey moves through the AMP and makes the Frozen Four. Nice little town. See ya on the flip side.
Now that we here in Connecticut are discovering how truly hard it is to win a national championship, this is actually a night to appreciate what Geno and Chris have done even more
Per source: CIAC considering moving all sports to 2021: winter sports in Jan and Feb; fall sports March and April; spring sports May and June. Should happen this week
Just saw the news about Geno’s mom. A remarkable woman. Added to the charm of the UConn beat for my entire time on it. And unquestionably the best eggplant anybody ever made. RIP Marsiella.
Not sure if this has been reported anywhere, but
@ciacsports
about to announce it will grant CT HS coaches permission to work with their players in the offseason. Great news for everyone.
Merry Christmas Twitter fam! Always enjoy the banter. I'll even wish a Merry Christmas to UConn fans today. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) But seriously folks ... all the best!
Hearing St. Joe’s will petition the CIAC to play someone smaller Tuesday in the semis. Not used to playing anyone New Canaan’s size in the state tournament. Any state tournament. Isn’t football used to playing a co-op in the semis?
#ctbb
Note to high school basketball people in CT: Two kids from ECC just dropped 48 (
@mikeybuscetto
) and 45 (
@d_dev2323
) on consecutive nights. Did it against Ledyard and Bristol Central, too. Good league here. Just sayin.'
#ctbb
And for the 4th straight year, a school of choice wins Class S baseball title! Yay! Good thing they don’t have a competitive advantage over small public high schools, though. I mean, the similarities between ND and Coventry are endless.
#ctbase
Nobody (and I mean nobody) is more critical of
@ciacsports
than I am. But fair is fair: This weekend at Mohegan was a grand slam. The looks on the kids’ faces said it all. A job very well done. (Now if we could just tell the public address announcer to stop shouting … )
Per a source connected to CIAC: tentative fall sports plan includes conditioning in late August; practices beginning around Sept 12; games start Sept. 25. Most games on weekends; regional scheduling; potential state tournaments in early November. More details to come
@thedayct
Very sad to hear the news about the death of Bob Neumeier. As a little kid, I remember him as the Whalers’ radio voice before the great Chuck Kaiton. Neumy’s narration of the night of the big fight against Minnesota - “Smith spills him!” is all-time stuff.
Major shout out to
@lancer_sports1
for the willingness to host St. Bernard v Hand tomorrow night. Big gym, short drive. Just know AD Chris Landry was under no obligation to do this. Neighbors helping neighbors. We need more of this.

state tournament scores today: ND-West Haven 18, Ellis Tech 0 in Class L; St Joes 25, Grasso Tech 0 in Class M. Please explain to me why two tech schools are playing for the same trophy as ND and SJ. I’m all ears, CIAC. Discuss.
