@StrangerJosh11
You are being disingenuous by omitting the amount of planning and engineering work that went into the Empire State Building before construction even began. It took neay a decade in total. Same with other quickly built mega projects like Eiffel Tower and Golden Gate Bridge.
@ChrisReid
@StrangerJosh11
It lacked the barriers that are added to protect bridge piers from ships. The Golden Gate Bridge is 90 years old, but it has had a lot of the original steel replaced. Old rusted riveted plates replaced with much stronger single-piece welded truss sections, while keeping the look.

There was a time, up until about 2 years ago, when I really was an Elon musk fan. I thought he was an inspiration who gave optimism for the future. Now I wonder if I was just an idiot who fell for his grift all along or if he changed. Maybe both.
@FlorasWagon

No, he doesn’t get it. None of you get it. Construction workers aren’t like ants who are born with the plans for the mega project already in their DNA. These projects take nearly a decade to engineer and plan before the ground is even broken.
@BeijingDai
Irrelevant because in a war zone, air defense was brought in due to the risk, and no preexisting infrastructure or port of any kind was there, and everything was transported by army ships. You are comparing two things that have nothing in common.
@StrangerJosh11
Just the salvage work will take months. You have army corps of engineers, dept of transportation, who is in charge? Then there is fabrication and of all the parts, which let’s say you sign the contract now. Maybe in 2 years it’s done, absolute best case.

Do you trust the shipping insurance company to fund vital piece of infrastructure? The government will recoup what they can.

The Apollo landing sites were just photographed from lunar orbit and there were hundreds of kg of actual moon rocks brought back and given to scientists in many countries, including the USSR, the enemy of the US and not one actual scientist said they were fake.

Have we even seen China hit a real-world enemy moving target with a missile? Even just once?
The US has hit hundreds of real-world moving targets in 2024 alone.

So in other words, you plan to annex eastern Russia after it is devastated by being China’s launching ground for the failed invasion of Alaska.

Use of stealth is mostly subsonic anyway. A supersonic dash is another tool in the arsenal, but not the necessarily the primary one. It is more the combination of every tool in the kit that makes the platform work as a complete package.

The US hasn’t seized Russian assets. It has only frozen them so they are still there. Seizing is an entirely different thing which requires more legal precedent and is legally difficult to do in a country that has rule of law.

For everyone who says Russia is doing better since they started the invasion of Ukraine: Gazprom posted a net loss of $7 billion last year, the first annual loss in 24 years and largest ever.
Vance insults our closest ally calling the UK “the first Islamist state with nuclear weapons.” Which shows how dumb he is because he forgot about Pakistan, despite having an Indian wife, so he should know better. Russia calls the UK the “main bastards” so they’re aligned.
Biden had the power to order the US military to intercept every weapon fired by Russia at Ukraine and he could have done it without congress. He could have saved thousands of lives and billions in infrastructure and done it without escalation. Why didn’t he?

Newer fiber lasers are much more efficient and than the COIL on the YAL-1 and are approaching 1 MW of power. My bet is they will be on NGAD since the NGAD engines will have power to spare. Also, they can be put on the B-21.

This is false. They are meant to reduce vibration, track wear, noise, and prevent mud from caking into the steel tracks. All western tanks have track pads all the time because they are just better than not having them.

Maneuverability can be augmented by small jet nozzles on the wings that bleed off some of the air from engine compressors. It can also use more traditional thrust vectoring engine nozzles. This is in addition to whatever control surfaces it has.
Wow fella…mad respect and thank you so much, but we shouldn’t have to spend your retirement savings…congress and speaker Mike Johnson should do their job and provide Ukraine with everything they need!
They will likely need at least 12 ATACMS to reliably destroy both bridges because of error and air defense. Possibly less or more if air defense is robust or if spoofing techniques are used plus really accurate shots.
Help! I'm having a hard time imagining what would happen if a 1600kg ATACMS, traveling from an altitude of 50km, at a speed of 1000m per second, with a 214kg delayed-fuze warhead were to strike this spot exactly? Any thoughts?
Before Ukraine gets F-16s, Russia is now almost blind in the Black Sea region.
Very telling how Russian early warning and air defenses are vulnerable to western missiles like Scalp and even our expired ATACMS. Every nation who bought or copied Russian AD is probably panicking.
Apparently Ukraine has attacked a Russian ballistic missile early warning radar in Armavir, Russia.
This destruction of this particular radar node has limited direct military utility for Ukraine, due to its coverage.
I guess some one really wants to test stability.

The Houthis have hit ships that were out of the umbrella radius of US warships’ air defense. The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden is a very large area to defend. However, the Houthis have failed to hit a warship even once out of 300+ of their missiles and drones launched.

Seems like the plan for Thiel and JD Vance, Vivek, and others who want the US to give Ukraine over to Russia and pull out of NATO is that we can somehow convince Putin to be our ally against Xi. But why would Putin be our ally after we already have given him everything he wants?

Urgency in fielding NGI is to defend against a near-peer ICBM attack meant going with Lockheed only. 44 GMDs’ 57% success rate per interceptor was never intended for an advanced ICBM with MIRVs and countermeasures, like Sarmat. Lockheed on track for 2028

I am biased but we should order 300 B-21s because it will be an extremely versatile platform able to carry almost any missile or bomb in our arsenal including A2A and A2G, extremely long endurance, and stealthier than any other aircraft, optionally manned, best sensors+compute…

Extreme movements in the West are backed by totalitarian actors—RU et al.
These actors support fringe groups to destabilize the Western societies from within. Russia’s main strategy is to present itself as THE alternative to the “decadent” West. I’ll briefly explain.

I still don’t fully understand the significance of these “points,” but Israel was not bombed with glide bombs, fuel-air bombs, iskander, Kinzhal, etc so this is an incredibly disingenuous statement.
Odd that Israel didn't get a single point from Ukraine, neither from the jury, nor from the public. You'd expect a bit more sympathy from a nation constantly bombed by the exact same weapons that Israel is bombed with.

I think a similar argument can be made about Trump being unfit for the presidency and he is only 3 years younger than Biden anyway. Best we disqualify both and republicans can go with Nikki Haley and Dems can go with Gretchen Whitmer. Would be a major improvement.
People wake up & realize how big of NatSec threat Biden's dementia is. This is not a R or D thing. This is a major NatSec threat. If Putin were to launch a nuclear strike on US only Biden can give order to retaliate using nuclear football within few mins. Putin is a gambling man.

Great, if they were to rebuild the exact same bridge as before, only with better protection against ship collisions, it would take a lot less time that designing a completely new one.

The West could have broken up and crippled russia after 1991. Instead, they saved it and coddled it. Look what happened.
Next time let's not make the same mistake.
I bet NG wins the F/A-XX contract. This will be the next carrier based 6-gen fighter. It will need to be long range and very stealthy so likely take what was learned from FB-23 but with bigger folding wings and other upgrades.
What happens if Russia employs a nuclear weapon? The reality is that no one really knows.
However, what is equally true is that NATO is prepared for this type of scenario, and we have capabilities and contingency plans in place.
Some thoughts on what this might entail. 👇🧵 1/7
This community note lol. It shows this music was composed to evoke evil totalitarianism and of course BRICS thinks that’s a good thing and gladly gives China credit. Go figure.
One-way drones can use Al-air battery, practical specific energy of 1300wh/kg compared to 220wh/kg of Li-ion. They are also cheap. Disadvantages are they are non-rechargeable, at least for now, the aluminum oxidizes and gets used up. But for one-way drones, that’s not a problem.

Trump didn’t mention the auto industry in his statement about the bloodbath.
The bloodbath statement was in the context of if he doesn’t get elected.
“If I don’t get elected, there’s going to be a bloodbath in the whole country.”
This was a separate clause and it’s obvious.

Israel was a major route for sanctions skirting and never recognized Russia’s invasion as illegal, plus you have older retired patriot and hawk air defense systems, tanks, and other weapons which Ukraine could use while the US gives you tens of billions in more modern weapons.
"The Air Force isn’t looking to buy more than 100 B-21s because it may come up with something better by the time all those aircraft are built."
