2) The people of the Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir, Bengal and UP are all ethnically/linguistically different from each other.
3) Islam arrived in Sindh & South Punjab around 750ce - so a bit longer than 3 generations and most of the natives were Buddhists.
Conversion of a large part of our race to Islam (Punjab, Kashmir, Bengal, Sindh, UP) was definitely tragic. These people's ancestors had been following dharma for millenia and in just 3- generations they became fully committed Mohammedans.

The irony here is that Punjabi has a larger global & cultural outreach than Urdu. Punjabi is still largely the native tongue for most of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Pakistani diaspora. I like Urdu too but Punjabi has a feel to it that's unrivalled.
