How do you start using less social media/ reduce internet time? Did you make gradual changes or go cold turkey? It took my phone to stop working to realize how much calmer I am without it.

My father's funeral was today. I read a eulogy. I danced. I sang along with the band. I cried into a catering napkin. I thought about running out of the venue and collapsing in a field. I stayed. I mingled. I went home.

I have a degenerative spinal disease that affects my hands, making everyday tasks difficult. When I first got the diagnosis, I thought I’d have to quit drawing altogether. It’s been a rough few years but I’m still making art, and hopefully I can continue to do so for a long time!

Smartphones were designed to be addictive. This is not an issue of self control. Blaming yourself is very convenient for tech companies, and creates a shame cycle which incites binges. There's nothing "wrong" with screen addiction: you're doing exactly what you're supposed to do.
phones are one of the most powerful tools ever created but people have bad self control and instead of trying to improve that they want to be luddites which is fascinating

So many people here asking if you can get social media on a dumb phone. My friends, the point is to reintegrate into reality. To fully inhabit this one & only moment by closing off portals to alternate moments. To accept your earthly limitations & find wonder within them.

When someone dies, it's tempting to simplify and sanitize the narrative. My father wasn't there when I was growing up. He abandoned me. We didn't develop a relationship until I was an adult. Only in the last months of his life did he apologize. I still loved him and always will.
