@anitaleirfall @asymmetricinfo 1st grade, my son was assigned to write poem about his favorite color:. "Black. Black is the color of midnight. Black is a color that's all right. Black is the color of the deep dark sea. Black is the color that's inside me.". That generated a call from the teacher!.

@cremieuxrecueil Not making this up: There is a certain *type* of moaning you occasionally hear from sick patients in the hospital, which when I hear it, tells me, "This patient is going to have a cardiac arrest soon.".

@Noahpinion Like tomato sauce in Italian food - but tomato wasn't found until discovery of Americas. Same with peanuts in Thai food, potatoes in German food.

@kittypurrzog Not infrequently, I have patients who lose their insurance because they simply ignore repeated letters/calls/email from their insurance company and fail to file paperwork.

@asymmetricinfo Call me crazy, I would not want to be born to a mother that, but for the law, would have aborted me. That life would have a high risk of being miserable. Thus I would want to be conceived in a pro choice world.

@adamdavidson It's not the privilege of light skin though. As millions of poor whites know. Would be helpful if social class was discussed more clearly.

@clhubes Don't take this the wrong way, but there was another kid I went to kindergarten with who was super clingy and cried for 3 solid days at beginning of the school year and he actually turned into a murderer as an adult.

@hholdenthorp @Magda_Skipper I'm a former NIH-funded scientist, and I strongly disagree. Translating science into policy requires weighing value judgments, something that the scientific process simply can't answer. This weakens the credibility of science in the public eye.

@kitten_beloved HW Bush was an amazing human, seriously. WW2 hero (completed bombing mission after he was shot down), congressman, moved to Texas and made $$$ in oil, China embassador, CIA head. .

@RadioFreeTom A neighbor, who I don't really know, got in my car, mistakenly thinking I was the Uber he had called. I freaked the eff out - it escalated to screaming in seconds - both of us were very confused. I feel bad and stupid. Thank God I am not a gun owner.

@paularambles The founder of this company was an idiot in many ways. He complained during the 2020 election, "Who the hell is Joe Biden? I have literally never heard of this guy." (Vice president of the US).

@eyeslasho I'm a doctor with most of my patients on the left side of the bell curve. They really struggle to remember when their appointments are, what pills they are supposed to be taking, what the name of their pills even are, what disease they have, or the names of any of their doctors.

@JonathanLigmas @cremieuxrecueil The regularity and relentlessness of the moaning pattern stands out. It's as if a certain neurologic emergency circuit has been triggered, where 98% of their brain has switched over to just staying alive, with 2% left over to moan and communicate distress.

@mattyglesias Many upper-class white people only interact with similarly well-educated upper-class black people, and therefore have a VERY skewed view of black America as a whole.

@JonathanLigmas @cremieuxrecueil Hard to put in words, but I'll try: Repeated, regular moans lasting several seconds, punctuated by short breaks, going on uninterupted at this cadence for minutes on end. Fairly low pitched. Patient not really answering questions at this point, staring straight ahead.

@kane Seriously, Pharma has studied "promising" traditional medicines, and if they really worked, they would patent it and manufacture it as a drug and make money. But every time they've tried that, the herbal remedy is useless, or at best, underwhelming.

@NateSilver538 I can understand that real-world fact-checking gets easily corrupted by agendas and bias, and is therefore bad. But what I don't understand is the level of hatred that even the Platonic ideal of fact-checking gets. Don't we want debate that is free of blatant lies?.

@eyeslasho I heard so much about anorexia in the 1990s and 2000s. But by the time my daughter was in high school in the late 2010s, I'm not sure I saw or heard of a single classmate of hers with this problem.

@JamesSurowiecki Lex Fridman is working for Russia.
Who is โLex Fridman?โ I mean, Alexei Fedotov. In January 2022, prior to full invasion, on his Wikipedia page: born Alexei Fedotov in Moscow, Russian-American. By 2023, page was edited. Gone were โFedotovโ and Moscow. He was now โborn in Kyivโ and was โUkrainian-American.โ
