@clhubes Don't take this the wrong way, but there was another kid I went to kindergarten with who was super clingy and cried for 3 solid days at beginning of the school year and he actually turned into a murderer as an adult.

@hholdenthorp @Magda_Skipper I'm a former NIH-funded scientist, and I strongly disagree. Translating science into policy requires weighing value judgments, something that the scientific process simply can't answer. This weakens the credibility of science in the public eye.

@RadioFreeTom A neighbor, who I don't really know, got in my car, mistakenly thinking I was the Uber he had called. I freaked the eff out - it escalated to screaming in seconds - both of us were very confused. I feel bad and stupid. Thank God I am not a gun owner.

@kane Seriously, Pharma has studied "promising" traditional medicines, and if they really worked, they would patent it and manufacture it as a drug and make money. But every time they've tried that, the herbal remedy is useless, or at best, underwhelming.

@mattyglesias They were allowed to exist as a separate identity by the fairly tolerant Ottomans. As Dhimmi, were subjected to certain restrictions (had to live in certain neighborhoods and couldn’t work for govt) and paid higher taxes. (Per Great Courses Ottoman Empire I just finished)

@SteveStuWill Not surprising to me. My father was raised very poor, got a PhD in chemistry and became upper level management at a large company. He was super critical of poor people - his thinking was, if he got out of poverty, why couldn't the rest?

@omar_annajjar @eyeslasho They did not take land by force. Israel and Palestinians were each given land by UN decree in 1947. Arab countries immediately all flipped out and attacked Israel (Arabs lost), attacked again in 1956, again in 1967 (Arabs lost badly), again in 1973, and ever since.
