@ericadyork Nope. The impact is ultimately felt by the exporting country, as their manufacturing becomes the manufacturing (jobs) of the US. & Anyone interested should google the washing machine tariffs. Costs reverted after only 2 years!

@edstromandrew I would say pretty close to empirically untrue. Elon (unfortunately) had a massive impact on BTC price after he initially backtracked on it. Elon attempt to cut budget (2 trillion lol) is alarmingly naive, he won’t cut even 1% of the deficit.

@TaxFoundation anyone reading this please now google happiest countries inflation vs taxation just because you can more easily see taxation doesn't mean you can get a free lunch! corporations hate taxation, certainly don't mind some inflation

@GlennLuk Nissan flailing makes a lot of sense to me. Cars are cultural. The company has relatively few iconic cars. Their design/design language team is nonexistent, as is whoever is at the helm. No one intelligent anywhere near this brand.

@nope_its_lily not about abandoning Taiwan because we like their culture or something, we are protective of them due to national security, they create the bleeding edge of technology

@Brad_Setser also the fact he thinks he's affecting long bonds (or even bills) speaks to this. of course the math is beyond absurd, it's insulting to anyone that vaguely understands the budget.

@johnholowach @StatisticUrban you'd be surprised what people get used to entitlements could be cut and most people would still think that the US has too much frivolous spending, the mentality has been entrenched for a half century generations have to basically die off

@George_A_Callas the implication that inflation wouldn't have happened under trump isn't intellectually honest as is the idea that there is anything of significance to cut besides what's left of little pissant consumer protection agencies

@BaldingsWorld unfortunately missing the context where the US is one of the least regulated states. the most pro capital wealthy country by far. see inequality much of africa doesn't even have secure water like going to north korea and warning about capitalism

@SantiagoAuFund Likely not relevant financially or practically. More meaningless optics stuff from the 2 trillion dollar dream team.

@choffstein True, in fact because the US is so financialized (ATH?) anything casino related is extremely compelling. Especially with such bifurcation. But yes morally, imo the financialization is the problem (morally and economically).

@AlecStapp The Inflation Reduction Act is essentially the same thing as the tariffs. Subsidies and tariffs do the same thing. The average voter doesn’t understand wages, thinks they understand taxation but has absolutely no idea… really nor do they understand inflation.
