The worst prepared teams tend to have coaches who are constantly barking orders from start to finish of every game especially in baseball. The ultimate goal should to be to get your team so prepared that you barely need to say anything through the game.

Exit velocity is great but does your swing work in a game? Does it allow to compete? Too many coaches applauding EV before they even review the swing. EV off of a tee or standard BP means very little if the swing wouldn't work in a game.

Has anyone considered how many kids have been discouraged to continue working on their game due to metrics? Kid love numbers but they don't see their upside without them.
I love metrics but I wanted to offer some perspective. Too many people using them incorrectly.

Great story this morning about Jeter and Rivera being demoted to the minors-Jeter hitting .234 and Rivera with a 10.20 ERA. They ate together in a Bennigan’s trying to deal with the reality of what just happened. Adversity spares nobody. Greatness is born from our response to it.

This is the problem in youth sports. The parents not the kids.
These adults took over the field and began assaulting each other on 6/15 during a youth baseball game. We're looking for any info, in particular to ID the man in the white shirt/teal shorts. Several people have already been cited in this fight and injuries were reported.

There two things in the baseball world that confuse me. Why do dads lie about their child's pop time? Why do programs lie about how hard their players throw/hit? It's not a good look for the program or kid and you will be exposed for it sooner rather than later.

Depends on the players definition of fun. The players looking to improve and get better have fun while working on their craft. While others only know how to have fun by goofing off which means they aren’t improving anyways.

Development is at a shortage especially in the travel world. Everyone is looking for short cuts. Invest in the development of your younger players so you aren’t trying to replace them later.

I cannot believe I’ve never thought of this. I’ve wanted a drill for footwork timing similar to this for awhile.
FLAMINGO DRILL:
Starting on one leg, this drill teaches balance, rhythm, and timing, while also forcing body awareness, all vital traits of good infielders. It is just as impactful for professionals learning how to play under control as it is this 12 year-old.

With so many tournaments played weekend after weekend after weekend after weekend in youth sports today it seems to me the enthusiasm and competitive aspect get watered down immensely.

This catch the ball with two hands crap is so archaic. You always catch the ball with one hand. The other hands job is strictly transfer. If your player drops a pop up and the ball hits the outside of the glove, that other hand doesn’t matter. It’s common sense.

There is a huge difference between a HS pitcher throwing 130 and an elite college guy. HS kid more than likely is a position player, doesn't receive proper mechanical coaching or training. Rocker is a pitcher only, goes to an elite baseball school and has been properly trained.

I spoke with a parent tonight after our game. Too many people think it’s the job of the coach to mold their players attitudes. I can tell that I definitely do try to help but it all starts at home. Too many parents talk poorly about coaching then their child refuses to listen.

It amazes me the fascination with infield velocity. Glove to glove time is far more important. I shouldn’t be having players throwing 83-85 across the diamond getting the ball there faster than kids throwing low to mid 90s.

I have a catcher telling me that our pitchers always miss spots so he doesn’t see the point in calling location.
I have a pitcher telling me he needs to take off velocity in order for him to hit spots.
We need to fix our youth program ASAP.

Ian Born went 4/5 and hit for the cycle today. He demonstrated the ability to hit for power the other way, hitting one 375 over the left field wall.
I can't stress this enough, high academic schools should have an interest. Potential two-way depending on the school

Ian went 1/3 today with a triple. His triple landed past the pole in right but there is no fence. One of his outs was caught about thirty feet behind the right field foul pole in fair territory.

This is super important and something I've been trying to work on a lot this year. Sometimes it can be extremely tough to do in certain situations but it benefits the team so much.
Best thing I’ve heard today was from a coach who has been in baseball for a long long time.
Said he became a better coach when he finally took accountability for all of his players mistakes.

Don't underestimate Rich's size. He's scrappy, hardworking, and most importantly produces on the field. He has a strong understanding of his abilities, where he wants to go, and how to get there. Any college coach would be lucky to have him on their team.
