High school sports are fun. Kids should play for that reason alone. Problem is lots of club coaches tell kids not to compete for their high school so there’s more time to showcase & “get seen”. And kids end up being the ones missing out on the experience. It’s a shame.

If a high school or travel coach tells you NOT to contact college coaches yourself because “he’s got it” I’d be concerned. I’ve interviewed over 400 college coaches in different sports and each coach I’ve asked has said they love it when kids reach out & communicate themselves.

All it takes is one negative comment, in the car or at the dinner table, to plant a seed in your kids’ head that they don’t have to listen to their coach. And from there your kid can become uncoachable, a bad teammate, or both. It doesn’t take much to sabotage a team’s chemistry.

Everyone thinks coaching youth sports is easy until they have to sign up and volunteer themselves

Don’t sign your kids up for youth sports so they can one day get a scholarship. Sign your kids up for youth sports so they can have fun, be active, learn skills, and compete with friends!

Every athlete in college was the best athlete on their high school team. It doesn’t matter if it’s D1, D2, D3, NAIA or JUCO....When you get to college be ready to COMPETE everyday for playing time and be versatile enough to adapt to different roles.

College coaches don’t care where you’re from, what travel team you’re on or if you have private instructors ... If you can make their program & school better, they’ll find you, recruit you and sign you. PERIOD!
