Unashamed personal Tweet. Congratulations to my older daughter who passed her assessment for Assistant Guard
@TalyllynRailway
today. The next generation...

The repair work on Flying Scotsman
@RailwayMuseum
has necessitated the removal of the smoke deflectors. The loco did actually appear like this for a short time after 1959

Heading home after a full on day with this at King's Cross. Whatever you think of it, to celebrate our railway heritage in such a public way is rather special indeed and it's been a privilege to be part of it.

Flying Scotsman and
@RailwayMuseum
pay tribute to legend of the steam age, Peter Townend, former shedmaster at King's Cross. Peter made the modifications that gave the loco its distinctive BR appearance. A friend to the museum in so many ways and a last link with working steam.
40 years ago today was the last run of the Deltic diesel locomotives on British Rail. I never saw one on the East Coast Main Line, but somewhere in this picture (found on the net) of Birmingham New Street in 1981 is a 7 year old me looking on. I still remember the sound!
I walked into
@LocomotionSHD
today to be greeted with this. No longer can anyone claim this is an 'outstation' or 'filled with the things York doesn't want'. Locomotion has come of age. Be very proud
@durhamadampince
and team, and the wider
@RailwayMuseum
community.
Today and tomorrow are the last steaming days of the Robey engine
@nationalbrewery
before it's closed by
@MolsonCoors
removing any tourism offer that Burton on Trent had.
@eaststaffsbc
are complicit in this, and if I seem unusually angry about this, it's because I am. A travesty.
The opening of New Hall
@LocomotionSHD
has allowed a reset of the Main Hall too. Five yellow ends all in a row, who says the NRM doesn't do non-steam traction? 😁
20 years ago today I began as Collections Care Manager
@LocomotionSHD
and am still there and
@RailwayMuseum
Plenty of ups and downs, but I reckon cause for a beer or two tonight (picture not taken today!)
An amazing experience
@LocomotionSHD
today to spend a couple of hours with Professor Alan Wickens of BR Research Derby, and arguably the architect of high speed rail travel in the UK. A real privilege for he is nearly 95 but as sharp as ever and climbed into the cab
@BobGwynne
70 years ago today,
@TalyllynRailway
became the first in the world to be run by volunteers as a heritage concern. I'm proud to have been a small part of it for over half that time and celebrate with my TR friends and family

Unexpected Castle in York. I don't keep an eye on when charters are running, so a pleasant surprise to be told about this during the morning and finding that it coincided with a lunchtime walk. Always a joy to see 7029!
A walk out to Morfa Mawddach this evening provided the incredible sight of the replacement Barmouth Bridge under construction. I had no idea that this was happening, but amazing work

@LordPeterHendy
Only a few weeks remaining to see Station Hall
@RailwayMuseum
before it closes in January 2023 for re-roofing. Thought I had best record a view that I've known since I put the Crab there in 2011!
Contrasts in engineering heritage
@MashamSteam
this afternoon as the last flying Lancaster bomber paid a visit. Never heard a rally field fall silent before...wonderful
80 years ago today, this became the fastest wooden bodied railway carriage in the world. The blue engine pulling it entered the history books. So did this

Action shot. Older daughter puts a round of coal into Scotsman
@LocomotionSHD
this morning. She wasn't expecting to, so please no comments about no safety shoes or hair being tied back 😉

As a teenager I got very much into modelling 009 narrow gauge and the 17 year old me made this kit of
@TalyllynRailway
No.3 It used to be run on a layout owned by the TR that represented Wharf to Pendre. Stored for years, some bits have fallen off...

Somehow I have made it to 6000 followers. So here's King George V, the same number
@steam_museum
last month to mark the occasion. Thank you all for sticking with me and special thanks to
@MrTimDunn
for getting me on Twitter years ago 😎
A privilege to have a preview of the forthcoming Transport Sale on 15th July
@TennantsAuction
This 10 1/4" gauge Stirling Single must be the second largest model of the loco ever made. What do you reckon
@MrTimDunn
?
