🖌 Flying Scotsman was specially prepared: its roof painted white and new lamps fitted, as is tradition for the Royal Train. 🤝 King Charles III also greeted the longstanding volunteers who help maintain #NYMR and unveiled a plaque to mark 50 years since its official opening.

Asquith Xavier successfully lobbied to remove a colour bar at Euston Station, which barred Black people from customer-facing roles. It was #OnThisDay in 1966 that British Railways announced an end to the discriminatory practice at Euston, with other stations following.

No, it's not levitation! It's a centre of gravity test. Locomotives had to go under various trials and tests to ensure they were rail worthy. This stunning photo was taken at Doncaster Works. The loco is LNER No. 2598 "Blenheim".

Did you know? In 1899 the Midland Railway ordered 40 locomotives from Pennsylvania because their works were at full capacity. Burnham, Williams & Co (later known as the Baldwin Locomotive Company), built this loco in Philadelphia and shipped it to the UK.
