Security Blue teamer. Head of Security GRC. Herbalist. Geek. Pagan. D4 player. Opinions mine alone. Politically true neutral, both 'sides' are too extreme.
@_amontoyaa
Had an internal recruiter tell me the range for the position on the first phone call. Bless that man and everyone like you and him. Some locations just pay low bc they can.

Similar in the food dept, I have so many allergies. I'll bring my own food. "No, give us a list and we'll get something." Always mess it up. I don't *expect or want* anyone to figure out food for me.
@bgolus
Maybe industries will finally be forced to pay for training or do apprenticeship, rather than expecting us to foot the bill.
Same with the trades, we're screwed.
Years of phrases like "white collar".
Looking down our noses at good jobs yet college grads in debt and jobless.
Spotted another BOGO job title. "CYBER SECURITY & COMPLIANCE MANAGER". 2 pages of duties. "overnight travel and off work hours required". 84k.
Requirements should be: Must be a masochist.
"CoMpLiAnCe isn't security " An outdated phrase for people who've never ran a GRC program.
Compliance is getting people to do shit that makes sense without any direct power over them.
It's wizard magic and absolutely helps security.
I started in tech in the late 90's. I got slapped on the ass before, so hard it hurt the next day.
Being a woman in tech is much easier than it was 20 years ago. It still ain't great but damn.
I'd like to let y'all know that these green things are leeks.
Cashier at Publix didn't know, even after saying leeks.
I guess so few people buy them in the u.s. but they stock them so....

That's cute. Let's see him roll the 70 ton a piece of about 50 stones from the kings chamber in the great pyramid from miles away, hundred or two feet above ground level.
And one of the statues is a solid block and a thousand tons a piece, two of them. 🤣
Happy to report that I was promoted from Manager to Director (still Head of Security Compliance).
I feel weird about what to write in the share it box (or leave the templated thing.. ?) on LI.
Hawkward. Old me would've been like F YEAH! humbled w/age?

Yes, I knew a pilot who had flown all over central america and more. Was a legal resident here and expected to almost start over entirely. He ended up being a crossing guard at an airport. He flew for years...what a waste.
@notshenetworks
Vitamin D issues too. Apparently magnesium and vitamin d need to go together to make them balance out. I imagine always indoors , it's not just me. Both cause back pain btw and stomach issues! Didn't learn that fully until...two weeks ago 🤐
Do people fire the head of Legal if a company gets sued? Why would they fire the CISO if they get hacked? There's only so much control over the outside world people have.
I took the day off to honor my little brother's birthday. He died 7 years ago from Fentanyl overdose.
Him: Liked metallica, love language: sarcasm, if stomach was upset he called it "bubble guts". He humored me with playing 'nice' GI Joe with me, growing up. Both He-man fans.

Seasonings with msg in them is big. I get blind spots in my vision and mega migraine for 6-8 hours. It's not just a "piece of harmless food" for me.
I thought I'd never be able to identify plants or herbs.
Growing them is the best way for me, can see the subtle nuances, different stem and leaf types.
That said, my babies are getting bigger 😍
@ajetsetgirl
My husband did too. Even a "so, you must think you're really smart then."
Uhh..no just like to read. Insecurity is a stinky cologne.
No excuse to harass people.
@notshenetworks
Gross, sorry you're dealing with this.
"aw, you're leaving us? We're losing the hot girl on this floor. XYZ dude will miss you.."
Me: he's married with 3 kids....
Them: oh that doesn't matter, he talks about how hot you are.
You're not alone.
@cybersecmeg
Oh, you DO have over 20 years IT exp and over 7 in security well..you're in GRC but "Yeah but can you do app sec and site reliability engineering in all the clouds ". You could just say you're biased against ladies, it's not hard.
@ChristnNitemare
As a Pagan, this is hilarious to me. No one would be here without women , we are the creators and look what we make with one seed. I think some of these folks are straight jealous.
@kapehe_ok
Ever since my dad got his first pc , I was obsessed. We could barely afford it and my mom was mad. I was so glad he got it.
20+ years later, love it and still learning every day.

@abbeysuekos
And then on top of it, you're paying them a ridiculous amount of money, along with the insurance company (if they actually pay it and don't push it onto you, that is).
@intolerantlefte
@girlziplocked
I love technology but believe it's turning people into thinking relationships are transactional. "They did this? Dump their ass!" . Building a relationship and intimacy becomes more and more foreign as people won't put the phone down.
@MalwareTechBlog
I wonder if this is why I know random things , when they're brought up. Everyone thinks I'm smart but really just can't stop going down every rabbit hole. 🤔
@RetweetableN14
Remember HR is there to protect the company, not her, sadly. There are laws against retaliation though. Sad this is happening, extra stress for someone else's actions.
Son is the only boy flute player and navigating feelings. Ah the parallels of being a woman in tech.
I told him he deserved to be there as much as anyone else. Don't stop doing something you like or love because it might "look weird" or different. Hope it helps.

I've been with someone that didn't abuse the person before me. He did the person after me though. Even abusive people 'favor' some over others.
I've officially been in tech for 25 years now. What have I learned?
1. You never know everything about anything. I find it humbling.
2. Most of the people who act like experts, don't know as much as you, don't be intimidated or feel lesser.
3. Stay in it , it's worth it 💕
It's my cake day and as such, I'll be a grumpy 46 year old and say, inspos? if you can't spell inspirational, just look it up kids.
I give you an excuse to have some cake 🎂
@MalwareTechBlog
It's great:
1. Employer pays insurance company
2. You also pay insurance company
3. You still have a "deductible"
4. You also get to pay a "co-pay"
5. Insurers get mass discount when they do pay.
That's quadruple dipping.
Found a pedo targeting my son, who just turned 12...on Roblox. Turn off chat on it!
Only found out because my son saved log, it was explicit. I think he was really confused. I had to tell him , grown men...will pretend to be little girls .
This world is sometimes sick.
@Karnythia
Millennial was surprised and appalled I had no retirement plan. I'm not naive enough to believe that's even a possibility. It's just reality.
@WillGregorian
Sheer boredom followed by moments of sheer terror. Sprinkle in some imposter syndrome and a couple cons were sloppy drunks are slobbering and or hitting on you.
Sums it up for me.
Good thing I love the machines and they love me.
Happy Freya's day and my bday, gonna be a good day, I will it into being.
Always better than the restraining order court date, I had to do, once. And a surprise lawyer I barely knew, also pagan, showed up and protected me.
Ok, so still good ending.
