If someone is wearing a medical mask for whatever reason forcibly removing it is wrong. And an ADA violation if the person happens to be wearing it due to a health condition. Regardless of opinions around the protests, this is blatantly wrong.

Important life-saving info: if you have a condition on the CDC's list of risk factors for COVID-19 you can get universal masking as an ADA accommodation. Here's some helpful info on how this applies to healthcare from @PeoplesCDC :

Dear cultural venues, when you go "mask optional" you are in effect removing the option to attend from disabled and immunocompromised patrons. It would require minimal effort and no cost to set aside mask-required hours and performances so that everyone can participate.

The CDC says they removed the isolation guidance bc other countries did the same. That is false. Other countries removed a *legal* obligation to isolate, something that never existed in the U.S. Many still recommend isolation for full course of illness. For example, Australia:

My only known close contact with COVID in the past year was with a physical therapist who tested positive the evening of my appointment. I didn't catch it because masks saved my #HighRiskCovid19 life. #KeepMasksInHealthCare #KeepMasksInHealthcareNY

If any store refuses to provide a reasonable accommodation, you can and should file a legal discrimination complaint. They will have to spend thousands on lawyers to defend it, which should quickly put an end to this nonsensical idea.

@LindseyBoylan @united @USDOT Replacing a custom wheelchair is not nearly in the same stratosphere as replacing a suitcase of clothes, yet the two are treated essentially the same. It’s also time for planes to be manufactured in a way that allows wheelchair users to fly in their own chairs.

@DrLeanaWen @JoannaInNY_MPH Would you say the same about smoking? Second hand smoke impacts others around you. If COVID was only a personal ailment, okay cool, but it's a highly contagious disease so each person's choices impact others

@DisabledRedHead @DisabilityChall @ericthetall1 @maysoonzayid @TogetherWeMask @nicnovicki @Shash214 @friendlycovid19 @anitahollander @MsJulieSLam Thanks! To be fair, a lot of productions do similar things but don't talk about it publicly. I think shining a light on it is important to help others see that being safe isn't a big burden.

@thesteveway True story: I got denied and had to pay out of pocket because I weighed too little for my chair. No minimum weight limit, just insurance being greedy. The fact that a smaller model would tip over the second I leaned on it with full CP force was irrelevant to them.

@KassyDillon Crowded outdoor situations still can be a transmission risk, albeit less than indoors. It's winter in the U.S. and I find it's a great way to keep my face toasty and protect my respiratory system from the cold air, which is an asthma trigger for me.

My Uber driver arrived masked and playing Biggie. Can I give 10 stars?

This is why you're only seeing minimizers platformed on TV.

Was recently asked to do a TV thing, 4 hours, in studio. Asked about ventilation in studio, they said they didn’t know. Asked if studio crew could wear masks, they said no, not required to. Asked if I could wear a mask, they said no. So anyway I didn’t do the TV thing.

@JumaaneWilliams @NYPDnews Are you aware that COVID is airborne and can absolutely spread by unmasking for even a few seconds? And that asking people who need to mask for medical reasons to not wear one is an ADA violation? No? Now you know. You're welcome to check out my full face on social media

Though it should be year-round, very happy that NYC outdoor dining is permanent. Not once in 3 years have I had to make half the restaurant get up so I could get to my seat. Not once have I been told there's no room for my chair. Not only is it safer, it's more ♿ friendly too
