@therevollie This also 'exposes' the sinner to family and other people attending the Mass and exacerbates scruples. The details may be hidden by the seal of the confessional, but it will be obvious to others that someone who abstains has "done something".

@ThaddeusPapist It can drive even more people away from the faith. Not so many today find eternal hell compatible with the idea of a loving God and find it hard to believe that so many family members, friends and acquaintances are likely going to hell forever according to traditional teachings.

@T8Jake @ThaddeusPapist But he says "Even this [the unforgivable sin] sin can not prevent someone from being justified in the end". Purgatory, according to Catholic theology, is only for those with venial sins.

@OliverSinc13831 @Highland_Pigs @SteveSkojec These changes cast doubt on the reason for the apparent continuity in teachings until recent decades. Was it due to human prudence rather than any protection/guidance from the Holy Spirit? If the Magisterium can be in error for decades, why not for centuries?

@JamieCauldren @SteveSkojec This is led by Tenda di Gionata, you can read their website and its testimonials. It's not about "same-sex attracted people living in chastity"

@digesttom This may be a silly question, but why doesn't the Pope decide to speak infallibly on all matters of religious dispute? Why is there a need for all these years of theological commissions and discussions when we can have infallible judgments on everything?

@cath_menarion @digesttom Does "manifestly evident" mean that it's explicitly proclaimed as being infallible?

@johnamonaco @digesttom Also, the synod's final document "participates in the ordinary magisterium of the successor of Peter, and as such, I ask that it be accepted"đź‘‘

@digesttom I find the general statement "When you love a person, you try to conform to his thoughts, to carry out his wishes, to interpret his desires." very bizarre.

@CdnMnrchyRspctr After taking into consideration the time in which he lived, Francis said: “I understand this work. For me it wasn’t an offense.” Francis added that he brought the crucifix home with him.

@FeserEdward It's like when they propose a teaching contradicting a previous one but dismiss the fact by saying "This in no way contradicts what was said by previous Pope X on Y encyclical", and we are supposed to ignore the problem just because of that 'explanation'.

@efraindelat @DigestTom The same pope says one thing and two years later another. So, if we have to take what they say with a grain of salt, that also applies to grandiose statements about their own authority.

@Jahaza Using this kind of logic, you could invent a new type of "marriage" which "does not change the Christian doctrine of marriage".

@ShaneSchaetzel @holysmoke I'm afraid Tucho may be preparing some "updates" to the CCC already. "In light of the progress of science understanding the psychological blah blah..., and the different cultural contexts, it is no longer admissible to..."
