Thank you
@davidhogg111
from
@AMarch4OurLives
for talking so powerfully on
@BBCWorld
about the Texas shooting. An incredible final thought - "I would question coming to America - you are not safe here, your children are not safe here".
The important thing to add here though - is that many of those people WOULD have lived for many years WITH that underlying condition. Important we don’t let ‘underlying ‘ health condition to become a sort of shorthand for - short life expectancy.
News bulletins need to stop broadcasting projections on tests or ventilators or anything else in this crisis...instead they should focus entirely on where we are today. Exact numbers.
Just watched item built around Matt Hancock’s new target - as opposed to tests done now.
This still has the feeling of ‘aren’t we doing well?’ And given track record I doubt that there is that much confidence new target will be met. Hope I am wrong.
Great to talk to Youtuber
@KSIOlajidebt
- about that grudge boxing match - pranks - and 17 million subscribers. Listen to what he wants to do to
@LoganPaul
! See the full interview.
I misunderstood one of the questions that
@amroliwalaBBC
asked - Matthew, I’m sorry for that, please let me reply here instead.
He asked if there was concern that because of the agreement between Prigozhin and the Kremlin the Kremlin would take a position closer to Prigozhin, a
@campbellclaret
exactly right. I said two weeks ago - we need a daily template for the No10 briefing - filling in all the basic numbers...on cases, beds, ventilators, tests done, testing kits, ppe.
That way the public can chart the real progress.

@KenRoth
chats to to
@AmroliwalaBBC
@bbcnews
about the so- called “controversial”
@hrw
and the post I shared. Why this matters for human rights and also press freedom
Powerful stuff from
@nazaninboniadi
voicing her alarm at events in Iran over the last 12 days. Great to have her on Global on
@bbcworld
. Important as Tehran closes down the internet - that campaigners like her call out what is happening.
PM ends with - if you stay home we will save thousands of lives. By that logic, why has PM not ‘enforced’ people staying at home - it would save thousands of lives??
I did watch the whole budget programme when I was a teenager and think it was quite exciting. My wife insists this is NOT normal - and by extension - I am lucky to actually have a wife.
Annual conversation in every newsroom:
Editor : “Get out there for the reaction of normal people to the budget.”
Reporter : “normal people don’t watch the budget.”
Editor : 🤷🏻♀️
Every category should be updated with an actual STAT...including beds, ventilators, PPE, tests....so we can judge how the ‘ramping up’ is going. Gov Cuomo is nailing the press conferences.
Govt briefing - giving cases and death stats at outset = good. Lack of empathy and going straight to support for business = bad. And drop ‘whatever it takes’ because on tests, protective clothing, charities and so much more, it's not happening.
Personal preference - I don’t think this is a joking matter. Nearly 40 thousand dead - lockdown is a matter of life and death. And it was the government that told us that.
Michael Gove has told LBC he has 'on occasion' driven to check his eyesight, but the Minister said he was 'not an authority on driving.'
@NickFerrariLBC
Channel 4 News correspondent Secunder Kermani today went into Gaza with Israeli forces. He saw an apocalyptic landscape and desperate Gazans evacuating to the south.
Warning: Distressing images.
This is a superb appointment by
@channel4news
and a real blow for the BBC. Secunder is a brilliant correspondent - incredible reporting but also a delight to deal with and someone who always went out of his way to service
@Global
on
@bbcworld
which focuses on his patch.
Pleased to say I’ll be joining
@Channel4News
as a foreign affairs correspondent later this year based out of London… Am looking forward to working with a great team on stories right across the world 💪🏽💪🏽
Imagine saying this if you made programmes for ITV - and how long you’d still be making them for. Perhaps if the licence fee is so flawed, he should take his programmes and get them commissioned elsewhere.

the Untold Story on
@channel4
was documentary making at its finest. Beyond powerful, compelling and utterly devastating. Yet beautifully told and put together - with so much respect for all those who took part and all those who died. Anyone who missed it - should watch.
Thank you
@AlinejadMasih
for talking me on BBCNews - it is clear that being targeted by the Iranian regime with assassination plots has not put you off voicing your alarm at what is happening. Great to interview you in person this time.
If Iranian government was not backing Russian invasion of Ukraine, if it was not the military support of IRGC, president
@ZelenskyyUa
would’ve won the war much earlier.
Let’s be united to end the gender apartheid regime of Iran together.
@AmroliwalaBBC
Thank you
@surajyengde
for joining me on
@BBCWorld
. This was a fascinating interview given the global focus on
#blacklivesmatter
. An amazing personal story and huge issues around how India treats Dalits.
This is the best news. I thought of
@janehillnews
a lot today. Mainly because I had to do interviews about the Golden Globes. I kept thinking she’d come to my rescue like the old days - but no sign of her. It’s days like this I feel for the audience.
1/2 Today I am officially two years clear of

The biggest news in the world yesterday was OPEC/Russia. Not that you would know it from our inward looking media, moving on today to pretend post-Brexit Truss is the main story in Prague. A little England government has bred a little England media.
Lizzi Watson worked at

In case you missed it, here’s last night’s show. It shows precisely why
@afneil
offers nothing resembling a “platform” but the toughest interview. Probably worth watching it before attacking it, Andrew, me, the BBC or anyone else.
Thank you
@Candy_jacobs_
for talking to me on
@BBCWorld
on what was an awful day for you. No-one can watch this and not really feel for you. Let’s hope you get to be part of the 2024 Olympics. Good luck.

joining me on Global on
@BBCWorld
on Tuesday - 16.15 - to talk about this incredible thread. Saw it last week and loved it - just like a quarter of a million others.
Take home message:
Be kind. Read more books. Spend time with your family. Crack jokes. Go to the beach. Hug your dog. Tell that special person you love them.
These are the things these kids wished they could've done more. The rest is details.
Oh... and eat ice-cream. /End

Around 600 Afghan refugees have settled in Wales after the Taliban took back control of their home country last summer.
@adavies4
was given exclusive access to a programme helping to introduce some of those Afghan refugees to life in the country.
Absolute class tribute to Jon Snow on tonight’s programme. Impossible not to be in awe of the range and brilliance of his work - and to shed a little tear.
Just seen there's been a flurry of people on Twitter congratulating me on my engagement. All v kind but our civil partnership was 7 years ago! Though it is true that
@Telegraph
at the time referred to my beloved as a "woman cameraman". Now, where's that facepalm emoji.?....
PM is hardening the Conservatives' line a little on Lee Anderson this morning. Before, the position was he was suspended because he didn't apologise.
Today Sunak said the comments were unacceptable and wrong "and that's why he had the whip suspended". No mention of an apology
I love making music. I love promoting a new record.
I do not love talking over and over about how I sort my childcare.
I am a singer. I am a mum. I will sort the childcare. Ask me something else.
Just now: My interview on BBC World News about my exhibition & the unfolding crisis in Syria / Rojava.
We already know what happened when Turkey invaded Afrin. Ethnic cleansing & horrific war crimes. Why should we believe their recent invasion will be any different?
Part 1/3:
Thank you
@DougieCritchley
lovely to have you on. Great stuff. You’re on my list now - so hopefully we can do this again through the season. I’m tipping Liverpool to give City a good run for their money - and they have alot of money.
Made my debut on the
@BBCNews
, talking about the start of the new season and Kane's impending move to Bayern Munich.
Thanks to
@AmroliwalaBBC
for guiding me through!
1/2 Realise there’s only one story in town
#HappyValley
- but just wanted to flag some job news, that I’m thrilled to be moving permanently to our BBC1 bulletins, working across
@bbcnews
at 1, 6 & 10. The volume of messages I’m receiving suggests this hasn’t been entirely clear…
Worth listening to this interview from my brilliant colleague
@DearZari
. We are blessed to have her on our Global team. She has worked relentlessly to tell the story of Afghanistan. She is brave and relentless. Quite something.
No way to sugar-coat this - this is bad.
@ruskin147
has always been a brilliant broadcaster. When I was on the reporters desk - he was a great economics correspondent. He’s been immense covering technology and always patient and kind to the dunderheads like me he has to talk to
Some personal news..in late October I shall be leaving the BBC.
I’ve had the most fabulous time working with brilliant people,
But after 40 years it’s time to move on…
The key to this - is what assumptions led up to the stop, whether there were ingrained prejudices. That doesn’t seem, from this, to be covered in what has been looked at. It’s the issue at the root of many of the stop and searches and the area that needs to be robustly examined.
Global returns on
@BBCWorld
today at 1500 GMT. Afghanistan’s Health Minister joins us - the country’s former Minister for Women’s Affairs gives her first interview since her ministry was scrapped. Also - the world’s biggest trial of a new blood test to spot 50 types of cancer.
I only discovered this week that Phil Neville’s dad is called Neville Neville. That’s how little I know about football. But hey, at least I’m watching! Go

Good luck - not that you’ll need it. The one and only time I did it - I remember saying to the great Mr.Kermode - ‘the last film I saw at the cinema was the Full Monty’. He laughed. Then when I said really - he looked panicked. He ended up doing more of the talking.
This is a big day:

will be in the studio and everything! Our first programme since March 2020. Get the popcorn in, see you at 5.45
