What is it with Americans, insisting that cutesy feminine fashion is covertly hyper-sexual?. These look like the shoes I wore to Sunday school!. This style of fashion was popularized in Japan by young Japanese women with the purpose of dressing for themselves.
There's something disconcertingly childish about a lot of Gen Z fashion and it rubs me the wrong way. Simultaneously sexualized and wanting to remain "just a girl". Specifically the shoes

"Kawaii culture" was created by Japanese girls as an act of rebellion to a boring beaurcratic system. I'm so tired of Western writers who may or may not have visited Japan, faux feminists writing articles on Japanese culture. Femininity is NOT setting women back.
TL;DR: Kawaii culture is sexism, Japan needs to grow up. Translation: Japan must conform to Western values.

@JackPosobiec ah yes, the 1970s. a time known for low crime, low unemployment and low recreational drug use. an absolute paragon of american conservatism.

@heyyitsjanea typical narcissist parenting. my step sister had this done as well as other friends of mine growing up. this is a really toxic thing to do. privacy is a right.

@CatholicAwesome Ive never seen a video like this where people are mad about having another son. It's always daughters. Very telling. .

@heyyitsjanea Also I almost always hear about this happening to teenaged girls. It's horrible how people treat their daughters.

Lolita fashion in Japan isn’t considered attractive to men in Japan. In fact most over-the-top “Kawaii” culture in Japan is by women for women. Even if it were “for men” who cares? Not all women seek “empowerment” via a pantsuit and CEO position.
"Let's rebel against boring bureaucracy by infantilizing ourselves and taking part in a culture in which men sexualize little girls.". I can understand kawaii stuff as leisure activity or lightening up a workplace but it's not like there aren't deep problems with it.

@alessabocchi You can tell an American man made this. It's tasteless and it's not giving what he thinks it is. This woman did it 10x better. Captures divine femininity, sensuality and beauty.

@tilli3000 I mean this with love, but you will have a miserable existence if you define your life by arbitrary race rules. We(Black women) can do what we want. Stop confining yourself and others to ignorant small-mindedness. It's ok to enjoy life 🩷✨.

@tilli3000 Her husband is Slavic and her daughter was born in Japan. Very reasonable to give her a name from either one of those cultures.

@fetchthepawn Criminalizing it won't fix these issues. It needs to be decriminalized, safe and rare. It's not about "empowerment", criminalization just has not worked any where it's been implemented.

@_RandomJ_ Avex absolutely fumbled FAKY. I heard from an original member that the group was meant to be like the Spice Girls with each member showing off an individual talent/personality. Japanese culture is too restrictive for that and thus the bag was fumbled 🚮.

@LittleMammith Yes. Sexual objectification of women only began 15 years ago when pornography became accessible. 👀.

@boneysoups It's too much of a safe bet. Looks beautiful, I'm sure it's great but we all know West Side Story. I don't get why studios are allergic to creating new projects.

@CartoonsHateHer I really think "cool girl culture" severely impacted Gen X and Millennial women.

@possumblue22 @Trey_Explainer Big Bang Theory and formulaic sit coms like this are basically just written for old aged pensioners. It's the only media they have.

@ElaCasati Because they're cute but the fake reason given is "fake japanese accent" even though they were saying a Japanese word. It's just because they're cute and nerdy. That's the real reason.

@cowgirlemoji its kind of true - people in the pacific north west and bay area use dressing sloppy (and unfeminine) as a stealth way to exert their socioeconomic class. "I'm so rich I can look like a total bum" and "femininity is lame" is definitely the vibe.

@ArmandDoma I was raised in the Black nationalist movement -- I've branched off from that as an adult, but I initially had the hesitations that Azealia had. A lot of people don't think beyond "Europeans were evil so they just killed & conquered". If they did, they'd see Guns, Germs & Steel.

@takethemback_ I'm not anti-Kamala but this is ridiculous. She's not code switching. She didn't grow up in a Black American household and there's no reason that this dialect would come natural to her. Upper crest Black politicians do this all the time and it's patronizing.

@HollieHarper5 @superrjoint @JamilahLemieux I told my parents that as a kid. That beating kids is the same what they did in slavery and they were astounded I would even say that.

@BrndnStrssng I just watched the Netflix trailer and don't understand the outrage. For one, it's a coming of age film. Two, nobody has problems with Sandlot, Goonies, Big, Good Boys, any other film that realistically portrays boys coming of age. I really don't see any issue at all.
