I need parents to be watching their kids at the library. It is not my job ffs. We have books for all ages. If your kid checks out a book that you deem inappropriate that’s on YOU MOM
There is some very inappropriate content in public libraries. A kid can easily pick up one of several explicit graphic novels. It's irresponsible to let minors check these books out

Horror is what teaches kids they can defeat the monster in fiction so that when the inevitable monster in real life shows up, they know what to do. Horror shows you how brave you are
Let your kids read horror. It builds empathy and prepares them for life. It teaches them about diversity and survival. It shows them characters just like them. Regardless of age, there are plenty of books for them. Let them read and feel and learn and grow. Long live horror.

It weird that a city council member doesn’t realize that libraries do all of these things and it’s also killing library workers. We were not meant to be all things to all people. We shouldn’t be forced to pick up where social services fail
Libraries are the original community centers. Using them as COVID care hubs is spot on.
NYC’s branches could be centers for food justice, device loans and WiFi access, and other social safety nets.

Actually no, since kids don't have spending power and then these items get pulled from their school libraries. Banning books takes them away just as the people banning them intended. Don't sugarcoat this
More people will read MAUS which is a brilliant graphic novel. The best way to make sure kids really want to read and see art is for terrified adults to ban it.

what are peoples thoughts on why fiction writers are producing so much less work than in the past, say up into the 80s but moreso w/r/t the writers of the early part of the 20th c. for the most part we dont have major writers who publish 10, 15, 20+ books anymore.

This. My agent keeps asking for a clause to be added to my contract about not using AI art or translation (since I sold world rights) and yet it keeps on not being there draft after draft 🧐
Authors: we need to stand up with the actors. AI is ALREADY HERE in our work. I just spoke to a Very Famous Author who has to remain nameless for legal reasons. They are held up in a contract negotiation because a Major Publisher wants to train AI on their work.
