“All that cover crop and no til stuff won’t ever work here” a quote that comes to mind when I pulled these out of my dryland fields as I watch all my neighbors get ready to mow their conventional dryland corn down. Jus cause it’s different than grandpa did it don’t make it wrong

Every time I get frustrated with how slow planting is going & im ready to rip off all the liquid systems I have on the planter I’m just gonna ride by this spot in the field without it and I’ll calm right down. Unreal difference when you have the right products in the right place

Uniformity is king in corn. Bottom ears came up within the first 24 hours of each other, middle ears 25-36 hours & top ears 36 plus hours after the first plants emerged. Same spot, same rows, everything identical. If you aren’t anal about your planters performance you should be

Everyday since August 23rd I get asked what 206 bushel beans look like. Here’s the best comparison I’ve found. The 2 on the left came from some beans of mine making 80 bushels. (Still good beans) but the 2 on the right are the 206 bushel beans. Seed size and weight are everything

Stop letting bullion dollar seed companies tell you how much seed to plant. Ultra low population trial looking awesome. 5,000 plants per acre on 60” rows. That’s one seed every 21 inches. 46 acres per bag

All the companies tell you their seed treatments give the best results & faster emergence. We’re gonna see. 6 trials and a check going into plant trays in a greenhouse. Identical soil type, conditions, and environment. Will post the results when it’s done

In response to all the planter critiquing the last few days. The difference in the top ears and bottom ears is only 16 hours. Keep in mind this field averaged over 300 bushels across the board and had 92% up within the first 24 hours. Always room for improvement on the planter

Had been terrible planting conditions so far this year. But we see able to sneak in one field of beans in good conditions and got as even a stand as I’ve ever seen. They got a good start. Long way to go! 🌱 💪🏻

Today was full circle moment for me. I remember listening to Kip Cullers 17 years ago & taking notes like a mad man on how he produced world record soybeans in awe of 160 bushel beans. Knowing where we are now is a feeling that’s tough to beat from a kid in the audience back then

Havent entered a NCGA contest plot since 2012 but probably gonna have to this year. Tried to be a watermelon and cotton farmer for a few years. Back to all corn and beans this year and dont regret it. (Yes this is in Ga, yes it’s calibrated, yes I know scale tickets are what pay.

Probably one of the best stands of corn I’ve ever gotten. Heavy red clay and 40,000 plants per acre & the emergence timing and singulation are still nearly perfect. Credit to delta force and furrow force. Don’t think it would be possible in these red clouds without those 2 things

Why having fewer big bolls is just as good or better than a lot of small @or average size ones. Quit worrying about fruit shedding on cotton, it’s fine.

It’s aggravating and takes a little time but we check behind every row on this 16 row planter in every field or at least once a day. At a maximum we want no more than 1/8 inch difference in depth in any one row at any given time. Emergence timing is everything in 🌽

If you’re in the south and not spraying corn for stink bugs you’re losing money. Walked this field end to end yesterday and never saw one. Sprayed today and the ground is covered. They can sure hide!
