We’re finding out the mayor has contracted for five hundred private security officers this weekend. A company called Monterrey Security. No names or badge numbers on their uniforms so accountability will be very difficult.

Sadly, have to share that 0 of these dollars are actually coming from the City of Chicago. $4m from anonymous donor. $1m from Open Society Foundation. Facilitated by the Resurrection Project. Only thing the city had to do with this was the press release.

I spent Nov. & Dec. speaking with + hearing from many families & teachers in the 1st Ward on CPS reopening. Whether it's testing protocols, staffing, simultaneous learning, etc., there are a lot of concerns that still need to be addressed.

I do not believe the City needs to raise your property taxes. I look forward to continue working in City Hall to find a better budgetary solution. #Chicago #1stWard

I will admit it was frustrating to learn that the district was coping with reduced resources from officers who had been pulled away to police student demonstrations in Lincoln Park. (3/4)

My colleague Alderman Rossana Rodríguez Sánchez and I introduced a call for the City to establish a public bathroom pilot. Every person in Chicago deserves access to clean sanitation infrastructure, and this investment benefits everyone.

Today I voted no on the 2023 Budget for the many promises it breaks to 1st Ward residents and residents of the City.

Glad the mayor’s office dropped the retaliation, but where’s justice for Anjanette? Who else has suffered like her? When/how are we going to stop this from happening again? We need to pass CPAC now. Not next year, next term - we need police reform now.

Glad to stand with Ald. Rosa & Rep. Guzzardi today at the Clemente Post Office for a strong/fully funded postal service. Whether you need your medication delivered or your ballot received, USPS continues to be an essential public institution. #USPSisEssential

This is exciting news! I remain committed to continuing to fight for pedestrian and bike safety improvements, and I look forward to having concrete protected bike lanes in the 1st Ward.

Major bike safety improvements are coming to Chicago: CDOT will soon begin installing new pre-cast concrete curbs along several bikeways, kicking off our plan to upgrade all currently protected lanes to concrete by the end of 2023. #ChicagoWorks

Today at City Council, I proposed a resolution to serve as Chair for the Committee on Environmental Protection and Energy. Chicagoans deserve a city where they can thrive, and it is beyond time to address our climate emergency as one part of achieving that goal.

While I voted NO today, I will work every day to work for a 2022 budget grounded in economic & racial justice that reflects the needs of our communities & is one they can support fully. 10/10

As we approach winter, the 1st Ward Office wants to ensure that sidewalks are fully accessible following snowfall. In the past, we've heard from a number of residents who are seniors or have disabilities and are unable to shovel their sidewalks. (1/3)

Despite the voices of Chicagoans - thousands of whom reached out to my office via phone calls, email, & survey responses - stating their displeasure with this budget & its faults, it was approved by the City Council. This is NOT the budget Chicago deserves. 2/10
