🧵Let me give some ppl background about the Yesáh ppl bc I’m seeing too many natives from different regions accuse us of being pretendians not knowing one single thing about our history.
Another anti-black Native (Mamabird the comedian) defending rez dog. Let’s get this straight, Mamabird, I am claimed & I am Indigenous. I don’t need ur approval. Lumbee & Saponi ppl are different we are not the same but both legitimately Indigenous.
Please stop using photos of actual Indigenous/Afro-Indigenous Narragansett ppl 2 push this false narrative. Understand that these communities acknowledged Africans were adopted in & some families intermarried. Mende (an African language) was spoken in Wampanoag village.
Today, is a day of mourning. Today, is a day of acknowledging the plight and inter generational trauma of our Wampanoag and Pequot kin. Their voices should be centered and heard. We should be thankful everyday, and we should spend time with our loved ones as much as we can.
This is what we mean when we talk about Indigenous erasure. This is what we mean when we say that with a stroke of a pen colonizers erased entire nations of ppl. This erasure is still occurring today, look at how some1 edited the Saponi Wikipedia page 2 say we r extinct.
This is not true. Indigenous ppl of the Caribbean still exist (I.E. Taino, Kalinago, Garifuna, Lokono). I am a descendant of Indigenous ppl from the Caribbean on both sides of my family. If they were entirely wiped out I would not exist today at all.
These tribes do not agree w/ what you are posting nor did you get permission from the descendants of these people to post. Stop using our photos & twisting our stories to fit your agenda. You’re talking about first contact nations who interacted w/ Africans first!
This person blocked me after getting upset tht other Indigenous ppl online speak about their lived experiences & the lateral violence they experience from their own communities. It’s funny how you want to block me but then subtweet me 2 ur followers not telling the full story
This is an L take. Afro-Indigenous ppl exist & all Black ppl do not claim 2 have Native ancestry. These generalizations are rly harmful as well as misinformed. There r plenty of non-Black ppl who have family lore of a Native American ancestor this is not a “Black” thing.
lé: maini:naǫse ( we are still here). Non-Native organizations & companies still continuing the legacy of yt supremacy in the digital age. Most ppl know Wikipedia isn’t a reliable source due 2 any1 being able 2 make edits w/o fact checking but this is still disgusting behavior.
I’m ngl I’m extremely disappointed & hurt (not surprised though). I use my platform to educate & put in the physical/emotional labor to explain to ppl my lived experiences just for a person to invalidate that & purposely misconstrue my words. No accountability is taken-
@skattahead
You must be new here 😂😂 next time, do your research b4 making assumptions. If anyone is anti-Black it’s the ppl who deny their African lineage & culturally appropriate Indigenous cultures based on family lore not actual proof of ancestry. Try again.
@skattahead
R u ok? I’m an Afro-Indigenous person! The rhetoric spewed actually erases me & my ppl! It erases my African lineage & my Native lineage. U don’t get to use Afro-Native ppl for photo ops & 2 promote white supremacy and then get upset when we call it out.
Non-native pubs do not have any right to undermine the existence of Indigenous nations but in 2023 this is still occurring. This negatively impacts nations like mine bc when ppl search up about Saponi people, this will be the first thing that pops up. Misinfo is too common.
I have mutuals w/ this anti-black person who is weaponizing the oppression of stolen Indigenous Black kin against them while in the same breathe claiming to be decolonial but promoting very colonial thinking. Black ppl, are not settlers! We did not ask to be here!
But let’s not distract ourselves with good food, photos ops, and laughs to forget the true history of this “holiday”. Let’s not silence native voices and let’s think about the contributions of Indigenous people. Let’s help out Native people or families in need as well as help out
I want to know why a man named Donald who isn’t Saponi nor have any lineage 2 Saponi/Yesa ppl think it’s appropriate 2 write about us in the past tense & cause Indigenous erasure. It’s always non-native ppl writing about Indigenous ppl it’s so strange.
Mass genocide doesn’t equate 2 extinction. There are still Indigenous nations in the Caribbean that practice their Native traditions, speak in their Indigenous languages, & live on their Indigenous lands. We can talk about the harms of Spanish colonization w/o promoting erasure.
What irks me is when non-Afro Natives speak about our history without understanding nuance. Especially ppl who are not from Virginia where it was literally unsafe to be either Black and/or Native. Are we forgetting they were unaliving our ancestors just for existing?
the reason why Virginia vs Loving got completely rewriten as a "problack" story is bc ppl were not holding room for the ugly reality that the Lovings were both antiblack ppl in an interracial marriage between a biracial light skin woman and a white man under white supremacy.
@icynotnicey
Yes, there are some Wampanoag people who have lineage from Sierra Leone. There was a point in time where it was recorded that Mende along w/ Wôpâak was documented as languages being spoken in the community.
Saponi ppl still exist, if u want to actually visit our communities & talk to us that is one thing. But equating our existence to mere talk/fantasy is rly crazy. Like hello! I’m right here!!! & speaking over us bc of ur “education” is not ok. Our lived experiences r more valuable
Y’all are living in a fantasy world & prove each & everytime how much y’all don’t care about the genocide of Black and Native ppl in this country. Y’all are inhabiting stolen Indigenous land but don’t even care to recognize us or listen to our voices.
@newleftrising
@thetolerantweft
Not voting or voting third party will not stop what’s happening in Gaza tho. But what it can do is protect the lives of Americans in our country & stop the suffering of additional ppl like the millions of immigrants who will be detained & deported. Those lives matter too.
Another anti-black Native (Mamabird the comedian) defending rez dog. Let’s get this straight, Mamabird, I am claimed & I am Indigenous. I don’t need ur approval. Lumbee & Saponi ppl are different we are not the same but both legitimately Indigenous.
State recognized & unrecognized tribes are just as legit as federally recognized tribes. This amendment to NCAI is literal racial discrimination being supported & some federally recognized tribes using their power to disenfranchise tribes w/ less resources.
#bipoc
Can y’all plz leave anti-Black/anti-Indigenous pretendian hunting in 2023? Non-Eastern Woodland natives have no right to tell us that our nations are fake & downplay our genocide. It’s so lame 2 still b stuck in a colonized mindset today..
🧵Please refrain from dictating how BIPOC should define our identities, as it should be based on our own choices rather than on colonized labels imposed upon us. I just had a non-Indigenous POC who does not know me try to tell me who I am. It is super annoying & dehumanizing..
Why is it always detribalized Mestizxs/Chicanos centering themselves when Southern Indígena kin speak about erasure and/or when Afro-Natives speak about our experiences dealing w/ anti-blackness? This person used to be my mutual then unadded me & sided w/ Rez dog
This native odetomedusa, has now for multiple days been harassing Afro-Natives/Indigenous/Two-Spirit kin. They continue 2 tokenize their Afro-Indigenous kin & defend anti-blackness instead of unlearn anti-blackness. They continue 2 block Indigenous ppl calling them out
No apology or acknowledgement of our plights that are different than his but I already have natives telling me to give him grace. Why is anti-blackness not a deal breaker for y’all? How can y’all not see we will never be free until we deconstruct anti-blackness?!
@apihtawikosisan
I personally feel like when it comes to Black issues, it isn’t the place of non-Black folk 2 speak on. There are specific nuances that non-Black ppl simply will never understand. Just like as an Afro-Native, I don’t agree that it’s the place for non-natives to tell us about-
You do realize when you say that, you are asking us to be in community w/ our abusers, ppl who refuse to decolonize or grow despite countless times being called in respectfully. This grace is never even given to Afro-Natives at all. We rly need to have a conversation about-
I’m trying 2 figure out y detribalized Chicanos who culturally appropriate frm actual Indigenous Pueblos r obsessed w/ actual Afro-Ntves who practice our Indigenous cultures, speak our Native tongues & actual practice land stewardship while y’all promote displacing Indigenous ppl
🧵Since
#Keeler
wants to be willfully ignorant and violently anti-Black against Afro-Natives, Freedmen, and stolen displaced Indigenous Black ppl, let’s give her a quick history lesson. She should never call herself a journalist ever again!
@thoughtfulbae
I feel like sometimes ppl forget that this isn’t internet stuff. Like this is a person whose going to spend a lot of time behind bars and his cousin will never be able to breathe again. This is very serious and sad.
If you are still subscribing to the Taino extinction myth in 2024 that has been debunked pls unfollow me. Taino ppl are still here & we’re the first on Turtle Island 2 deal w/ colonization. Respect our kin & the sacrifices they’ve made for us. Taino women r the first MMIW!
You went back & forth with Afro-Natives explaining to you our lived experiences dealing with anti-blackness. Then, made it about the rez when the original tik tok said nothing about the rez. This is y we will never reach liberation bc ppl refuse to deconstruct anti-blackness!
How whiteness continues to be upheld in these conversations. How anti-blackness is so persuasive that y’all don’t even see us as ur kin nor value our plights. This is why Afro-Natives stick to us & our communities! This is y some don’t openly proclaim our Indigeniety bc of this!
Community should be a safe space. All of our voices should matter but it’s clear as day that in NDN country Black voices don’t. Someone who has more followers is more significant. It’s such a slap in the face for ppl to tell me all of the “good” things he’s done for Black ppl
@0rigPrettyBlack
@bogenfogen
Those are not your ppl nor your direct ancestors. Indigenous is current btw not just ancestry so Which Indigenous Nation claims you? Which Indigenous Nation r you an active community citizen? If you can’t answer those questions ur not Indigenous.
On top of that, Mildred was a victim, her yt husband groomed her. This is the same state that racially reclassified Indigenous ppl & criminalized being Indigenous. Plenty of nations still dealing w/ the repercussions of that paper genocide & forced sterilization!
Connecting natives talk about how some reconnected natives can be laterally violent so why can’t reconnecting natives do the same? It goes both ways. Refusing to address the issues or attack ppl for calling it out isn’t going to get us anywhere at all!
@skattahead
Again, u don’t get to bring us up on conversations that have nothing to do w/ us nor speak 4 us when u do not possess our identities nor have 1 lived experience from being in our shoes. Any1 being anti-Black it is yourself.
Keep in mind your mad about this tik tok which mentions NOTHING about the rez, or blood quantum. Just a Native women speaking about lateral violence which is a very real thing
@indianz
The same “Justice” Thomas who is residing in Indian country, on stolen land? Yeah ok…definitely care what a non-native has to say about who we are🤦🏽♀️
“I get shit about how brown skinned ppl and black skinned ppl are treated.” Wow 😯 ur having an entire conniption bc you refuse to acknowledge ur yt privilege & the plights of Indigenous kin who are more marginalized by you. Btw there r reconnected natives on the rez too
Even today, ppl continue to say that Mildred is only Black when she was also Rappahannock, there are even instances throughout her life where she says she’s both! Let’s also talk about the anti-blackness Afro-Indigenous Rappahannock folks face
Lastly, I refuse to coddle a grown man. I refuse to make anyone feel comfortable within their bigotry. I will continue to speak out & idc who doesn’t like it. Y’all are apart of the problem when u turn the other way or downplay the problems!
So this is how you truly feel about your Afro-Native kin? So calling out anti-blackness & lateral violence is an American view? I’ve never told you to shut up, I educated you on experiences of other Indigenous ppl & you downplayed our lived experiences!
Y’all don’t wanna look in the mirror bc when it’s ur fave or some1 in ur family being anti-black or even urself u don’t wanna address it. Newsflash, a lot of these native influencers are only “pro-black” when the camera is on. Look at their behavior behind the scenes.
@basedvasco
@lelwafuturo223
What’s funny is non-Indigenous ppl like yourself that isn’t claimed by one nation or community think that yelling into an echo-chamber online that your Indigenous bc of a fake percentage somehow changes reality ☠️
It’s crazy how it was those same Black & Brown natives like myself who defended you when Keeler called u a pretendian & when u got disenrolled. I guess it’s easier to forget that & then block us when u don’t want to face the truth!
How do y’all not see how tone deaf that is? All bc some1 does some nice things doesn’t absolve them for being held accountable. Nor does it justify bigoted, predatory or abusive behavior! It’s like y’all never heard of performative activism before!
As a person who is claimed by my tribe and as an Afro-indigenous woman proud of both my African lineage & my native lineage, I will NOT sit back and allow a person who isn’t from my tribe or a person who can’t even show their face call me a pretendian.

@kaylanijuanita
B4 we get online & tweet certain takes, let’s understand intersectionality & nuance. I agree, definitely would not write Virginia vs. Loving as a pro black story, but I do think there’s more complexities that are not being addressed in ur tweets.
What irks me is when non-Afro Natives speak about our history without understanding nuance. Especially ppl who are not from Virginia where it was literally unsafe to be either Black and/or Native. Are we forgetting they were unaliving our ancestors just for existing?
@apihtawikosisan
Kebina! As an Afro-Indigenous person, I’m going to need non-Black Indigenous ppl 2 stay out of our business & stop trying to rewrite history. Ayiti is not a settler-colonial state & is under occupation rn. Stolen Indigenous Black ppl r not settlers! Pi:láhuk 2 the revolution-
I have just published a new article detailing my Yesah ancestry. I believe it is vital for us, as Indigenous people, to share our own family histories from our perspectives rather than risk being misrepresented on a pretendians list by pretendian hunters.
Hence, likely why that contributes to the internalized anti-blackness her descendants deal w/ bc if they continued to be unapologetically Black, they risk getting excommunicated from their own tribe. This is the harsh reality Afro-Natives experience.
Y’all continue to promote & perpetuate yt supremacy & then play victim when y’all get called out on it. Like I cannot. “Destroy Mexican identity” bffr 😂🥴 Mexico has always & will always b a settler colonial state. Listen 2 actual Indigenous ppl not idiots like these on online
The Anglos have sent their Rainbow colonizers to destroy Mexican identity.
The Anglos have indoctrinated blacks, mestizos & whites to attack us.
This culture war should unite all the mexicans to crush the anglo pawns.
These NPCs repeat the same thing their YT professors said
I just wanted 2 highlight current collabs & solidarity between Yesah & our Haudenosaunee relatives. Sachem Sam George, who is one of the Chiefs of the Cayuga Nation, representing the Bear Clan, spoke at the Yesah Tribunal Rights of Nature, joining us in our fight against

@apihtawikosisan
anti-blackness it can definitely cloud your thought processes even around decolonization. We understand our history & don’t need it to be misrepresented or need to be educated on it. There are certain things that should be handled within community period. It’s ok to admit to-
In no way, shape, or form am I justifying anti-blackness. It is totally unacceptable, but we also have to understand nuance & stop looking at race through a Black or White lens when circumstances are more complex than that. There is gray area!
It’s easy to portray yourself a certain way when u know others are looking. The true colors were shown today, ik there are going to be ppl in denial bc y’all have the privilege of not facing anti-blackness. Continuing to deny the truth isn’t going to help us reach liberation.
@apihtawikosisan
not having the range to be able to speak on certain discussions. Let’s normalize not speaking on everything or identities that we don’t have lived experiences from to prevent harm from being caused even if that isn’t the intention. Harm still occurred by spreading misinfo.
The same person questioning why Afro-Native ppl should be acknowledged within Native organizations, now blocked me when my unapologetic Afro-Native self vocalized my opinion. Bigots like these have no room in our communities. They promote division & subscribe 2 yt supremacy.
Here comes the yt tears. U as a non-black person don’t get to redefine what anti-blackness is & then tell me a Black person what I experienced isn’t anti-Blackness. Real southern Indígena kin r not danza Azteca princesses try again.
@apihtawikosisan
our histories or try to speak over us using “decolonial” language. Apart of decolonizing is respecting the perspectives & voices of others and understanding that it isn’t your place as non-Black person 2 speak on certain issues. Plus, when u r not actively unlearning-
You can’t be pro-Indigenous but pro-pretendian hunting. You can’t be pro-tribal sovereignty but think you have the right to tell Natives from other regions our history & try to undermine our Indigeniety bc of what the colonizers taught u about our history.
@skattahead
I’m glad you admitted ur not Afro-Indigenous meaning any other tweet or comment u make about this topic is dismissed. It’s clear u can’t tell the difference between an Afro-Native person & a person who hates themselves & falsely claims 2 b Indigenous.Yikes.
I get told this by a Euro-Native trying to argue w/ Afro-Natives & Black ppl about hip hop. Can’t make this up. I would love 2 know wht money I’m getting when my Indigenous African ancestors were stolen from their homelands & my Indigenous Native ancestors had their land stolen?
Lastly, her descendants are dead wrong for denying their Blackness. I will never justify that. At the same time, I feel very bad for them bc you must be able to comprehend how low they must think of themselves & how badly they’ve been treated to resort to self-hate.
Idk how many times Indigenous ppl hve 2 keep telling y’all that this is not America, this is Turtle Island. My ppl call our land many names some of them are Amá̡:inausí̡ka:, Akų:čuk , Ahkanshuq /Amanishuck & Okahok Amaī. If u don’t know the name of the land ur on, use this site
I have a Diné relative who has now passed on who was placed in this program as a little girl. My heart goes out to all Native families/children & descendants who are still affected by this today. 😢

We are not about to stand for this disgusting attack & lateral violence on indigeniety especially attacking a deceased indigenous woman who was not only accepted by her community but an activist. This is very shameful and classless.

We cannot sit here & just ignore the harm caused by being groomed as a young child by a grown yt man & how they likely affected her view of her Blackness not even including living in racist Virginia
What irks me is when non-Afro Natives speak about our history without understanding nuance. Especially ppl who are not from Virginia where it was literally unsafe to be either Black and/or Native. Are we forgetting they were unaliving our ancestors just for existing?
@Papi_Dai
@skattahead
No one has any issue with that. The problem is the ppl who lie & culturally appropriate Indigenous cultures. This entire tweet is disingenuous. The quoted thread literally shows some1 using yt supremacy 2 erase Afro-Indigenous ppl. They r not one of us & denying being African
@eweissunburied
Talu:kena okayi:ki:ka mą:hkaną́hka isi: koyaklákenita -ha:k ayą:tohlą mihą: kebina. Our ancestors skulls are not photo ops! The dehumanization of Indigenous ppl in life/death should not be normalized nor should u be attempting 2 profit off of our trauma.
It’s so wild to conflate a very small percentage of self-hating Black ppl who promote Indigenous erasure to ACTUAL Afro-Natives who are also harmed by their rhetoric. Nor, are we responsible for their rhetoric, mihą́: čhǫ́:ki.

“Blackie” you anti-black mayosapiens r rly hilarious. It’s called being mixed..it’s called Intersectionality, literally common sense, facts, & history u aren’t a fan of at all. Afro-Indigenous ppl exist whether u like it or not..

Carolina Reaper is back on Tik tok doubling down on his anti-blackness against Afro-Natives. He reactivated his acc & then blocked me so he could continue to spread lies on my name. His followers r calling me racist slurs & accusing me of being a pretendian.
@sun_collins
So you as a non-black person think it’s appropriate to try to gaslight Black & Afro-Native ppl who experience anti-blackness daily that we don’t know the difference? Rez dog was being anti-black point blank period. Denying anti-blackness is anti-black.
Excuse me? So Zuni, Apache, Diné, Comanche ppl, etc just don’t exist? Mexico is literally a settler colonial government..the southwest US has always & will always be Indigenous land. How can you give back something that was stolen? Indigenous ppl still exist in SW US stop erasure
Making fun of an Indigenous relative for being mixed w/ European ancestry & has been weaponizing their huge following to go after other Indigenous ppl. Now, they are being manipulative, mentioning s*c*de which is very disturbing and disgusting.
@hrts4sica
I want to emphasize that the colonizers falsely labeled Indigenous Kalinago people as cannibals. This unfounded rumor was fabricated to rationalize the enslavement and genocide of Indigenous populations, when in reality, it was the Spaniards who engaged in cannibalism.
It’s crazy how you argue w/ my Nahua mutuals who have every right to call out cultural appropriation & Indigenous erasure that ur ppl are doing! Instead of reconnecting Mestizxs/Chicanos actually doing their genealogy & reconnecting the proper way they rather talk over Indigenous
There are so many reputable sources about our people that is easily accessible to the average person. Donald & other yt supremacists are doing this intentionally to continue the legacy of our paper genocide/racial reclassification. I will not let this Plecker wannabe win.
@KirosAuld
As a Yesáh woman, I find it very funny how ppl will say we are no longer here & not rly native but they claim our relatives who live on the Six Nations reserve who got adopted into the Cayuga nation. Or they will claim our Monacan kin bc their federally recognized
For clarification: I do not believe that non-native governments have the right to determine the Indigeniety of Indigenous groups. Unrecognized tribes are just as valid as recognized tribes. It is just insane that it doesn’t matter how much proof, we still aren’t “native enough”
Healing inter generational trauma and addressing anti-blackness must be done within community. It should be a call in rather than a call out. But tainting Mildred’s legacy w/ half truths isn’t going to cut it for me. Ppl don’t understand what our ancestors had to do in order to-
We are one people. We also have been prioritizing language revitalization (check out the link). I have relatives who are enrolled Monacan but we recognize we are all the same ppl, regardless of colonized made borders & colonization.
