We need survivors. People who had truly terrible things happen to them. Victims, souls who suffered and lived to tell about it. People who wrestled with the dark clouds of fate until they found the silver thread hidden within. They teach us that we can breathe even without air.
Okay. Let’s talk Annie Leibowitz. People say she’s racist, that she deliberately takes terrible pictures of black people. They say she’s bad! They call her all sorts of names, and every time they use the same 4-6 pictures to prove their point. I disagree.
Rihanna for vogue.
I think it torments patriarchy that
@ozzyetomi
is so set. Too clever, too diligent, too good looking, not seeking their approval for anything, too whole for them to complete. I love to see it. Happy birthday every day. I am so glad that you’re here.
Nigeria has the highest incidence of Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in the world. According to the WHO in 2018 there are 20,000 new cases every year. By refusing to outlaw child marriage Nigeria is complicit in the suffering and death of thousands of girls.
If we are to say that she can’t photograph black people or people of colour then we must look at the evidence. ALL THE EVIDENCE. And not just the ashy picture of Viola, Lupita, and perhaps Coco (I didn’t dislike Coco’s shoot)
As a Nigerian, I’ll tell you, this is an incredible picture. It’s deeply referential, reminds me of the pictures many Nigerians see in their photo albums. Nostalgic.
On camera we saw the
@ARISEtv
news team assaulted by Soldiers/Police (security agents). It was specific. They've lost 2 cameras in 48 hours. This is why local media likes to toe the party line. The risks are real.
When slandering Annie, people like to use this pic as their example. For this picture Lupita decided to go make up free. I like it because it’s honest in an industry that’s ridiculously dishonest. She’s a gorgeous woman, but in our rawest form, which one of us is Hollywood ready
2014… that year, there was no one bigger, brighter, or more beautiful than Lupita. NO ONE! this picture shows that. She is the Oscar. She was the moment.
For 15-20k I'll draft a press release for you no problem. I write well. ex-bbc. ex-cnbcafrica. been in the guardian. thisday. businessday. ynaija. bellanaija. Please RT my customers may be on your TL.
I don't know how to articulate this... but I'll give it a go. I've been feeling like this for a minute, at peace with the world, satisfied with myself, content with my lot. I'm at ease with my present, I take great pleasure in my memories of the past, and the future...
But speaking of those schools... Most of you were dicks... Many of you were casually cruel... Some of you outgrew this behaviour... The majority of you did not... Shalom.
I went to Loyola Jesuit College but I was an idiot. My parents didn’t think I’d pass my WAEC so they sent me to uncle Seyi’s house to learn a thing or two. He took a car battery from a 2005 Corolla and used it to jump start my brain. That’s how I passed JAMB.
Something I’ve never shared before... but I owe
@bellanaija
a debt of gratitude. I’ve written articles for them over the years at no cost, but do you know what they did for me? When I was applying to journalism school (
@CityUniLondon
) they gave me the most epic reference.
@dgorgan
I haven’t seen this one. She’s been working for 54 years… What she has on her Instagram is probably a tiny sample size of the work she’s done in her life. I continue.
Dad gets back from Montreal... 10 minutes ago...
Dad: Hello son.
Me: Hi dad. Welcome...
Dad: That Tosin Osibodu. He's launching his platform today. Did you know about it?
Me: No. What...
Dad: You have removed yourself from the world so the world has removed itself from you.
My father’s first generator was a tiny Honda thing more commonly known as a better pass my neighbour. The thing allowed us to run the television a necessary distraction from suffering and a couple of lights. We loved it so.
Dad: Where's Dami?
Cook: He's playing with the dogs.
Dami: Yes dad.
Dad: You know when I was your age I had a wife and a son, but all you have to show for being 29 is hours of therapy I pay for and 2 dogs I'd quite like to euthanise.
Around 3.5 million Nigerian women got married before their 15th birthday and 22 million Nigerian women married before they could get a drivers license. Nigeria has more living child brides than Holland has people.
The question to ask if you dislike it is:
Do I like myself?
If you like yourself, then you’ll like the picture. It isn’t the prettiest picture. It isn’t even the prettiest picture Annie’s taken of Lupita. BUT it is a good picture. I get it.
Ah! Yes! I, Afam, who has the initials D.A.O have signed on to be a writer/creator/influencer somebody for

@TMTisClutch
if you like don't propose on time. There's no quicker path to Deeper Life than a man with "feet of clay."
@Darthcoal
catch your sub. As in "feet of clay" is lifted from the very entertaining Ile Owo.
Tomi. When I'm no longer poor I will marry you for convenience, because to wake up and see your big beautiful eyes every day would be the greatest convenience. That and your Canadian passport.
As I prepare to write about

documentary, Skin, I’m reflecting on this quote by

“You can love what you see in the mirror, but you can’t self esteem your way out of the way the world treats you.”
