I LOVE this! It is such a powerful way to demonstrate the power of syntax—how sentence variety adds a musical quality to our written discourse. ❤️

@ksirach Congrats! You are in for a treat— and lots of late nights! 🤣 I would absolutely do it all over again though. Applying to MSJ’s program is one the best choices I have ever made. Wishing you the best!

Hot take: 🔥 To better serve gifted and high-ability learners, we need to use instructionally relevant assessments to identify areas to reteach, refine, extend, and enrich. Independent projects and contracts should be used with caution— and should always be driven by data.

@jenrogersco @thismomloves Spelling is a really important aspect of writing that we have tools to screen. Kate gave great recommendations. Otherwise, I suggest giving a writing prompt to evaluate writing more holistically with a rubric—and/or use sentence dictation and error analysis with younger students.

@DarylAMichel Roughly 25 years ago, my guidance counselor told me I would be “wasting” my intelligence if I pursued teaching. I told him kids deserve intelligent, passionate, capable teachers. I still wholeheartedly believe that. I’m so glad we didn’t take their comments to heart. Yay, us!
