There is soooo much more to the science of reading than phonics and phonemic awareness. We won’t help your school apply a “phonics patch” to a core program that isn’t aligned with the research. As
@SfinnFinn
says, “that makes scrambled eggs.” Transformation is where we’re at.
The science of reading is a body of empirical research derived from multiple disciplines (cognitive psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, etc.). The findings from thousands of research studies reveal how the brain reads, and why it has difficulty doing so sometimes.
Hey teachers- we see you and we appreciate you! 🤓😍Thanks for hanging in there and making sure students learn how to read, despite today's challenges. Download our *free* TRL Virtual Soundboard to support your phonics instruction during remote learning:
ARKANSAS LEADS THE WAY in stating outright that any program based in 3 Cueing will be disqualified from K-2 curriculum approval. More states to follow?

“DISQUALIFIER:
If the theoretical basis of any submitted program utilizes 3 Cueing Systems Model of Reading...as the primary basis for teaching word recognition, it shall be disqualified because cognitive science refutes use in foundational reading.”
Today, on International Literacy Day, we are reminded of the importance of literacy and that the ability to read is a human right.

Sneak peek of the cover of the Sept/Oct issue of The Reading League Journal that is in press! 🤩 It's a special issue dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the National Reading Panel Report (Linnea Ehri gave us the idea to make the cover apple green to match the NRP’s)! 🍏
During these uncertain times, The Reading League remains committed to providing educators & parents access to quality evidence-aligned trainings & seminars. Our BOD & Chapter Teams have come together to offer an incredible opportunity to learn.
This booklet is by far THE BEST briefing on the science of reading for educators we have ever seen. Admins in our CNY area got them last week at a conf and I took this pic of the cover. All efforts to contact EAB to get more have failed so far. Anyone see this yet?
We are learning volumes from

about the language basis of reading, the effects of teacher language, & developmental language disorder. There is *so much more* to the science of reading than PA & phonics. We have 200 learners here and hundreds more livestreaming! 🤓
Everyone Reading Conference power moment: Dr. Linnea Ehri listening to David Kilpatrick talk about her model for *remembering* (not just decoding) words & clarifying the importance of PA (not just blending) for word reading as the NRP stated.

One way to help children learn vocabulary words? Show them the spellings and have them sound them out. That helps them learn vocabulary. Cool, huh?
