@bullishboiler The effort won’t come from people who have been there for decades. Would take a fresh crop of legislators for sure. Would think there are plenty of people who would love to be able to say they fixed it.

Can still recite most of my elementary classmates home phone numbers.
In ancient times, people would memorize books or lengthy poems. That skill is largely lost. When I was a kid, I remembered phone numbers, navigated without GPS, happily occupied my time, and alleviated boredom without an iPhone. Kids today lack these skills. There is a risk that AI is so pervasive and increasingly proficient that it will turn many people into zombies who are incapable of functioning without it and never develop some of the basic cognitive skills that we take for granted today. We'll have to contend with an entire class of people with permanent brain atrophy and diminished self-worth.

@iamyourfarmer Don’t apologize. I’m just impressed a farmer from Kansas has such a good read on what he thinks or values. He’s earned some leash trying to fix something that was close to being unfixable. If he fails, he’ll join a long list. If he succeeds, we all win.

@WheatTraderFCSt Just got done saying this COT is perplexing. In corn, supply situation very similar to a year ago, and yet every major group has a position almost exactly opposite of a year ago.

If there’s the level of waste, fraud and abuse in a $40 billion organization (USAID), do we not think there could be a meaningful amount in a $0.8-1.5 trillion program? Can’t eat an elephant in one bite.
As I’ve previously said, until anyone in the federal government is willing to address the four main drivers of spending… * Social Security * Medicare * Medicaid * Interest on national debt (which now exceeds defense spending) …all this other stuff is window dressing.

@morrisonmkts @IGPJay Where do you draw the line with who you buy grain from? Be a lot of Russian grain bought with US tax dollars if it’s all about lowest cost.

@Joe_Hi11 @Lohn_Jocke Which is exactly what’s been happening at USAID from what’s being reported. Glad we’ve come full circle.

@Joe_Hi11 @Lohn_Jocke Rubio’s response about the dollars being spent needing to be aligned with our national interests sums it up better than I can. At the very least, I’m glad we’re having this conversation.

@felling1331 I think you can have a debate about whether the “service” should be provided at all, but if it does indeed need to be provided, then I think it’s worth something to make sure the U.S. benefits somehow.

@Lohn_Jocke I don’t disagree. But if you want to give out tax dollars to foreign farmers, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind taking your tax dollars to pay rent or utilities for trading offices in other countries either?
