One of ours opens drawers & cabinets... I put magnets on a lot of them, others just have toolboxes or chairs permanently in front of them. & she's big enough now (10lbs & growing) to open some of the ones with magnets.

Ted Bundy was an up&coming republican, worked at a suicide hotline, stopped a purse-snatcher at northgate mall, wrote a rape prevention pamphlet and was an assistant director of the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Commission
@BetteMidler
the article you've posted here is anti-trans propaganda, unfortunately... women are AWESOME & unjustly oppressed, but that is not a good faith article on the topic. love to you 💕

"You're weird but I will employ you anyway"
"You're weird but that might be valuable"
"You're weird but it's chill"
"Everything is epic with you involved!" (I assume that's a kind of contact high?)
"Your bluntness is refreshing."*

@harryhew
even as early as his phone conversations with Weberman you can hear that—while his speech is individual—a lot of what we heard from him in public was performative, part of a persona meant to be entertaining. offstage, or when really pissed off, it mostly went away 🤷♀️
@jonrosenberg
@AnaMardoll
I think I saw almost this same interaction amongst autism twitter some time back... book comes out which is disrespectful to autistic people, someone criticizes it, it is suggested that they should read the book first, they do & review it via live-tweet, chaos ensues... 🤦♀️
"I have been involved in transgender communities since 1994. And those communities had already existed for decades before I appeared on the scene... And we’ve been using public restrooms during that whole time, without causing any harm to others."
to all the mainstream right, center & left folks who are just now freaking out about all the baseless accusations of "grooming" from social conservatives: they've been doing this to trans folks for several years now. your lack of concern emboldened them...
@diannaeanderson
Walking down our country lane well into dusk the other night & a big dog comes running out of a yard barking & snarling. Voice calls: "Is someone there? He's alright, he just likes to bite hands! Didn't see you sneaking up there in the dark! He's just protecting me!" etc 🤦♀️
@mightbeautistic
personal experience not general fact but there were several ravens in Los Angeles that recognized me. if Z showed up without me in their neighborhoods they'd find her & act all interrogative—"where's 5?" the ones where we live now are less sociable but I love having them around!
@carolinerenard_
thinking of all the actors I knew who waited tables in Echo Park, Los Feliz, Silverlake... there's some ugly irony waiting in here somewhere
@JortsTheCat
Our cats asked for dried mango with great insistent force today. Made efforts to leap into the air & remove it from my hand. So we gave them each a piece. They sniffed it a lot but decided not to eat any 🤷♀️
@the_tweedy
my mom got a t-shirt in the 80s that said "When god created man, she was only joking" — my understanding at the time was that it was less a statement of god's gender & more about owning the xtian patriarchy 🤷♀️

In Richard Thompson's Beeswing memoir he says he'll often nail a solo 1st take—the run-through, before he knows the song—or the 13th take.
I am the same.
Take 1 has intuition.
Then it takes its time to become conscious, then unconscious again.
Mountain, no mountain, mountain.
@AnaMardoll
weird, I just had this conversation earlier... I ended up saying:
"we reached a point of having mandates (I'd prefer we had not reached this point) due to anti-vaxxers' disrespect for others' bodily autonomy. Mandates attempt to restore that autonomy."
@mightbeautistic
yes, we stall capitalism from its eternal frantic hurry to expand forever, disrupt patriarchy's insistence on durability in the face of all obstacles, & screw up white supremacy in its embrace of all the above (I'm sure there's a nuanced way to express all this, I'm just riffing)
@poetastrologers
Pisces and everything/anything? How can you listen to anything with other people around? They talk! 🙃 (but it's real nice when they don't, in which case alone is not required) ❤️
@SNeurotypicals
Couldn't think of anything at first but now I'm remembering L.A. neighbors complaining about 'noise'... (ie musician practice)... in the middle of the afternoon... our own house, no shared walls... volume was low... & they had just had jackhammers for 6 months, 30' from our door.
“I am utterly incapable of having one thought without at least another hundred coming along for the ride... Needless to say, it is very busy in my head. If it were possible for someone to catch a glimpse of my thoughts being processed, they’d be hard-pressed to make sense of it.”
"Nobody who refused me my diagnosis ever considered how painful it might have been for me, and it got really boring really fast.”

I've shelved entire songs for years or decades after learning or growing in one way or another. Sometimes I can find a new way to say or sing it, sometimes I find it didn't need to be said or sung, & sometimes that one just doesn't ultimately work. It's okay, there will be more.
look I have no idea what's going on with Neil Hagerty but I WILL say he's one of the only rock&roll musicians I'm aware of who has been saying things in interviews for a decade or more along the lines of "the south is rising again and they must be stopped". I respect that a lot.
@thewordunheard
have got into fights with true-crime obsessives over what heroes the police are. which mystifies me. my dad's a retired non-FBI profiler, I have some understanding of what the cops do & don't do in these cases. wait too long to search, lock up the wrong kid, etc.
@Marcissist
** This remix album is actually a surprisingly good starting point. Laswell cranked up the bass in a way Teo never would. (Get Up With It is another favorite by the way, for He Loved Him Madly tho I love it all. Version of that on this)
@melnickjeffrey1
omg totally. been listening to WILDFLOWERS today & yesterday. such a regular stoner dude thinkin kinda deep thoughts & not finishing them but it's cool. 💕
@Marcissist
Can't keep it to 5 lol... Dark Magus/Agharta/Pangaea, Kind Of Blue, Bitches Brew, In A Silent Way, On The Corner, but the one that got me into him (besides Kind Of Blue) was Jack Johnson. I was a Pink Floyd/Jethro Tull teen & an older neighbor handed me Jack Johnson & it was on.
@CasualLaw
Elie Mystal's book opened my eyes quite a bit as to what is & is not in the constitution, how & why it was worded in the ways that it was, & how & why it has been interpreted since
always wondered why we had so many STYX albums in the house when I was a kid... turns out they were the favorite band of a serial killer my dad was tracking. not sure what to do with this information.
@mightbeautistic
internet didn't exist in the 80s but some kind of ability to follow whatever threads of interest occurred to me, in depth, at will, would have been great. I read *voraciously* & made intense use of inter-library loan in our rural state (my mom was a librarian in our little town).
I just saw that Van Conner of The Screaming Trees has died.
Van was our neighbor for a while. We played his songs in our house by the beach. Hoped to do more but covid happened.
He was a sweet & passionate man & he stomped the terra & I wish him well on his travels. 🤘
#VanConner
WOMEN WHO ROCK is such a fucking breath of fresh air.
All the white-boomer-dude rock docs I've seen or read in my 47 years on this Earth—in this one that centers women, & especially Black women, I am hearing things said that I have NEVER heard before.
🔥🔥🔥
gave in & got the free trial account (soon to be canceled) so I can watch WOMEN WHO ROCK & oh wow—episode 1 was fantastic. been waiting my whole life for this. run do not walk & check it out if you can.
@melnickjeffrey1
reminds me for some reason of when Z & I walked into a Silverlake venue, probably for a show I was there to play, & the previous show was ending & it was Mavis Staples(!)
for whatever reason she spotted Z, walked to the edge of the stage, shook her hand, then finished her set. 💕

Like the very old & the very ill, the caretaking of the unborn is up to us. A considered decision by a potential mother that this is not the time for one to be born, is a legitimate decision & an important one.
@melnickjeffrey1
we were listening to various eras of Beatles in the car today & Z specifically responded to "Twist & Shout" by saying, "it's such a joyous song!"
@ChrisAlvino
oh totally—"have to stop writing this article to read every book a particular author *ever wrote*, otherwise how can I possibly proceed & feel remotely authentic about the words I put on the page" 🤦♀️
@dissapaintment
like: "she can fly through outer space & shoot energy beams & maybe even destroy the planet if she wants! but that outfit absolutely strains credulity!"
@SNeurotypicals
heh my wife gets that a LOT
"I've worked here 28 years & no one has EVER asked that!" kinda thing
at this point we just figure it's her brand or her signature or something
happily she's charming enough that most people aren't bothered 😂
@SNeurotypicals
NT/straight/white/male-dominant culture — what I sometimes think of as 'reference man' culture... it's all tied in & interconnected, the issues aren't separate & it all comes down to a (false) image propagated as 'what one SHOULD be' or 'what kind of human matters most'
@miraj_la
@SonofBaldwin
nudity has been sexualized, sexuality has been binarized, so a 'masculine' type seeing a naked male is at risk of having 'unmanly' thoughts😱
Courtney's GREAT here, & stops just short of (hopefully with the aim of redefining) the fact that "ROCK" in the Wenner era is by definition a white male form (which is a travesty of art) & artists are measured by perceived proximity to perceived same.
@forked_queer
it's been popular enough that I've heard it just out places, & not much typically penetrates my consciousness that way lol...
among my particular friends (mostly musicians) it just brings Tracy to mind... & while Combs version isn't bad I guess? made me want to hear the orig.
@melnickjeffrey1
I have learned from having Z read over my stuff that what strikes me as "realism" is often, for her & presumably for at least some other People Of The Global Majority, merely traumatic to encounter. 🤦♀️
ok quickly if that's possible—
John Coltrane's approach to composition (& sometimes Alice's I believe) often involved what appear to be puns but were in fact a form of magic.

we used to live on the steepest hill in Los Angeles, on a side road in Echo Park (east side, not even hollywood-adjacent)—& every map app sent every fool passing through over that hill, whether they needed it or not.

Haight Street & Kesey scenes were both enacting vestigial alternatives to 'mainstream culture' — free clinics, breaking down societal roles, however hamfistedly & with as many warts as one wishes to find — & it is amazing what a threat these truly tiny communities were seen as
