It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of one of our own, Sgt Dean 'Waldo' Walton. Waldo was a true 3 PARA man and although he spent several years in the Red Devils doing what he loved the most, he was first and foremost a talented paratrooper.

On this day in 1971, Sgt Michael Willetts 3 PARA, selflessly gave his life to protect civilians from the blast of a terrorist’s bomb. He was posthumously awarded the George Cross. His courage & selfless commitment are an example to us all. We will remember.

In April/May 2006

Battle Group deployed into Helmand, Afghanistan. Hot spot battle zones included Sangin, Nowzad, Musa Qala and Gareshk. Fighting lasting upto 6-8hrs with Paratroopers carrying upto 70lbs of kit. Over 500 contacts reported in the 6 month tour.

Today we remember the paratroopers of C Coy 2 PARA, our sister Bn. OTD 1942, they conducted Op Biting, the daring airborne raid to capture parts of a German Radar in occupied France. The Bruneval Raid was our first Battle Honour & gave Britain a much needed victory in dark times.

After two and a half years in command, Lt Col Mark Swann has handed over as CO 3 PARA to Lt Col Will Hunt. The handover took place in the Arnhem Room at Moor Park, which was used by the 1st Airborne Corps to plan the Battle of Arnhem in 1944.

Battle Honour: Arnhem.
As part of Op MARKET GARDEN, 3 PARA was part of the 1st Allied Airborne Corps, which included the American 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. It was tasked to secure the main canal and river crossings between Eindhoven and Arnhem.

His example inspired his Platoon who forced the Taliban to withdraw. He died from his wounds and was later awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his "inspirational leadership and supreme valour". He will be remembered forever.
