If we’re competing in a global economy now, imagine what it looks like in 30 years. Now imagine how hard kids in China, Korea, Japan, and India are working. Plus it’s good to develop strong work ethic young.
@seandsweeney
I took a work call while on vacation under that tree in the back a couple weeks ago. Mill Valley is nice but so are many other places! Your story brings me peace of mind when career stuff feels non-linear. Thanks for sharing.
@OberandOut
I went to high school with Maddie. Didn’t know her that well, but knew her well enough to know the energy she brought to a room and what she meant to her friends.
@FullBlownMltdwn
This album would deserve to be on this list if it was just Planning a Prison Break and then 30 minutes of dead air. The song is that good.

@zerohedge
I don’t really care either way, my point is that it’s not a great comparison. They’re fundamentally different. One is user generated content and the other has an obvious slant already

It’s not actually stale - I bought it for $300m and am re-listing it…it’s generated about $100k more cash flow than I expected which is great, but I’d like to focus on the higher multiple businesses in my portfolio
Some thoughts on the Amazon aggregator hype cycle and its unraveling, and how it failed my "good consolidation idea" test. I guess I'm not surprised it failed, but also kinda surprised because I respect a lot of Thrasio's backers.
@carrynointerest
Interesting to think about what’s leading vs lagging here - if I’m searching for food banks and pawn shops, I’ve probably already cut discretionary spending (and therefore those consumer changes are baked into current results)?

Hemric’s hook coming to the checkers was worse for the sport and had more impact on the outcome than anything Williams did today. And I like Hemric.
@jennacxruso
Uh I’m 35 and modern baseball is definitely not mid. My opinion on the National is that they haven’t made a complete record in a decade and there has been at least one song on each of the last few records which is more cringe than anything a major 3rd wave emo band put out
@jonwu_
I remember talking to the CEO of a craft beer business who noted, what seemed jokingly at the time, HBS student interest as a sign of the top. A few months later he sold his business to a strategic for a crazy multiple, and the craft beer bubble popped shortly thereafter
@jarridvtingle
The fed didn’t cause this - bad IR, bad risk management, and a bunch of VCs playing out “game theory” quickly and either not realizing or not caring their peers and portcos would be bagholders, sure
@Peter_Bukowski
Is it Barry’s fault that the offense is anemic again? Or is it the fact our athletic trainers, strength and conditioning, and playcalling are all below average too? Or you know, Jordan Love missing some open receivers and throwing into triple coverage?
@investing_law
It’s funny because I feel like law school kids looked down on us business school kids as unserious - who do they think their client is going to be if they go down this road?
@B_Madden4
In public: we are moving to value-based contracts to align incentives.
In private: we are doing hospital JVs and acquisitions in certain markets solely to use their rates as many places as we can
@FranchiseMnA
Pre Covid it was pretty common to see $2m revenue / $700k EBITDA per club, with just under $2m buildout. Dunno about last couple years. The thing that impressed most was the sheer lack of low margin locations…I struggled to find something that was mature and not making 15-20%
@carrynointerest
Fun fact (I have heard) is that Centroid wasn’t even invited to what was a relatively broad process - they had to negotiate their way in.
Sharing my annual review using the

template. Probably too many words to say "I did some of the things in 2023, next year I hope to do more"
@carrynointerest
MyEyeDr to the general public. This is an optometry roll up. No change in strategy under Altas. My former firm owned stakes before and after and I was on the deal team.
@SievaKozinsky
There are PE funds with fund lives in the 15-20 year horizon - believe Cove Hill is one and some of the big guys (ie Carlyle) have a product. My Q is whether the returns are based on asset selection (ie are we well-positioned for 10+ years) or value creation strategy differences
@cfo_mm
Seen this work well multiple times. Rationale different by case (expanding product lines, major cost synergies, faster growth market). Balls that are being caught in your core biz today will get dropped. Key Q is whether there’s more than enough juice in M&A to offset that
@SahilBloom
Pitchers and goalies…it’s lonely, and you can only help the team not lose, you can’t win the game by yourself. But playing goalie was a really good way to learn the value of keeping the score close so the team can fight on
@bobpockrass
At this rate, Ty Dillon won’t make it thru the season, unless they’re putting 90% of the team resources behind Corey. Ty’s getting blown out.

First: “I am the watch you always wear, but you forget to wind”
Most recent: “it’s never adding up, but don’t write yourself out of the equation”
3 takeaways from business trip to CA: blaming high rent for Boston’s mediocre food scene is a copout, I would rather do just about anything than hang out with big tech salespeople, whoever put the channel changer on the middle plane armrest either doesn’t fly or doesn’t watch TV
@stillwell
The biggest shock of moving to Colorado wasn’t the dry air or the terrible drivers, but that such a hallowed institution was in a B/C strip mall
@EquiCompound
@TurnerNovak
Consumer preference / product mix is a big factor (ie shift from carpet to hard surface). HD just made a bet in the multi family room turn space with acquisition of Redi Carpet through HD Supply

C - get to A in half the time and then work on whatever you want without the PG - be it solopreneurship, startups, consulting, etc. The “post achievement professional” model.
