@sparr0 Sure, what did you have in mind? You may already have these btw, but Adam Waytz sent me the raw exported image files via Qualtrics, which are libs_raw.png and cons_raw.png.

So cool to see my friend @joelmjaeger quoted in the Washington Post today as a climate and energy expert!

@jeffbigham @IanArawjo I was just a reviewer on a very nice note-style CSCW paper. After a round of revisions, it got 40% longer 😬 but at least it got in!

@_alialkhatib agree this is hard, and if you solve this conceptual problem we'll all be very grateful. I like Yang et al.'s paper from a few years ago on this topic because it's grounded in design as a process; it's nice to have some practical stakes for conceptual work

@moultano @norvid_studies This is a particularly funny interpretation because the same study shows that basically everyone allocates more moral concern to humans compared to non-humans. It's an interesting study, but lots of limitations!

@jskf__ @norvid_studies @SealOfTheEnd The wild part is that the authors gave a "click the number" task but the actual data is (x,y) clicks on an image! We can blame Qualtrics for making it easy to do this kind of nonsense

@_alialkhatib my thoughts felt scattered, so your further thoughts are appreciated! I agree with your opening: it's hard to articulate this stuff, because it's hard to tell how simple it is (or isn't). Current HCD feels antithetical to destruction, but I can't tell if that's fixable or not.

@lizbmarquis I basically agree with this, but I think this under-rates the usefulness of workarounds. There's potential for supporting Doctorow's notion of "adversarial interoperability" instead, reshaping information control to be less hierarchical.

@nickmvincent If we think of these systems as meme makers, it's easy to see the appeal to users (meme, fancam, etc. makers are popular!), but it's harder to see any obvious commercial potential beyond existing audio editing tools.

@xuanalogue Did you see this paper in FAccT a few years ago from a philosopher? Introduces the Is-Ought gap in the gentlest way possible. He knew his audience!
