There are people out there who want Kingdom Hearts to tone down the crazy shit, or downplay it by constantly winking at the audience, or even cut out the OC stuff and make it just Disney and Final Fantasy, but they don't realize that would make the series terribly uninteresting.

You could pay $30 for Mulan on Disney+ but you could also pay almost the exact same amount for the Kingdom Hearts - The Story So Far collection on the PS4, which includes a Mulan world that's probably much better than that movie.

The way the series is now might be stupid and complicated to some, and maybe it is! But taking away everything that makes Kingdom Hearts such a ride would leave you with a series that is terribly unremarkable, only remembered for being this weird crossover.

Basically if you take away all the emotional beats, the story twists, the cliffhangers and plot hooks, you get every single piece of crossover media that people rediscover on social media and go "I can't believe THAT happened!" And then promptly forget again.
