@TheJimWhitehead @cliffski I keep telling everyone that productivity will trump all else. So being 40x more productive as an AI-assisted programmer will mean that ALL programmers will need to be AI assisted in the future, or they'll be out of a job quick smart.

@TheJimWhitehead @cliffski I teach games programming and CS. What do you think I should teach if OpenAI models are the #1 best coder in the world by the end of this year as they claim they will be? I'm trying to explain it to colleagues and getting nothing. I see it as a huge issue to address.

@TheJimWhitehead @cliffski Yeah, not connected aspects for sure. But I suspect what will happen, is that AI-enabled learning will wipe the organizations out anyway. The question is, is the only value social? My colleagues argue people can't always learn by themselves. I'm on the fence.

@TimSweeneyEpic @BoisvertRich I'd seriously think about how UE will fit in with an AI-assisted worldview in 5-10 years. Tinkering around the edges of specific languages won't help if your customers are using text descriptions to configure features. Make it easier for AI models to help improve productivity.

All the AI coding stuff I've been testing today makes me realize that we can just have AI models talking to other AI models through some structured interfaces. No need for code-in-the-middle stuff that's a nightmare to setup anyway. AI all the way down!!

@EMostaque @arrakis_ai That's not how programming works. Its like saying you did a paper round and you'll soon be CEO of megacorp. Programming isn't about coding functions, it's about solving unseen problems efficiently.

On a whim, I decided to check Github Copilot's new generation ability (using LLM's) on Unreal Engine code and... it works! I mean at least Claude Sonnet seems to have accessed C++ and Unreal Engine stuff enough to know UObject and TArray's and such. Outstanding!

Having hot reload on both your frontend (vue) and backend (FastAPI) is really useful for the AI code thing. As you accept file edits, it reloads the whole thing for you.

I might be preaching to the choir here, but this whole code assistant thing is nuts. Particularly using Claude Sonnet for web app + python backend. Just describe what you want and its there. I'll try this for Unreal Engine soon :) I suspect that to be a huge fail ;)

@cliffski Do you have some old geezer that gets called out if its a real life good for nothing attacker? Does the CCTV have classifier models to say its a rabbit or human?

Which suggests that for these code assistant applications, you have to finetune on the latest application docs and the docs have to be LLM friendly to really work as an ecosystem. Something to note as I had same issue with o1-mini last week too. Wrong OpenAI chat completions code

Trying out the new github copilot agent mode programming stuff. Allows you to select the LLM used to generate and showed an issue when trying to use create-react-app (which is now deprecated and definitely wasn't going to work on windows). Working with vue was a breeze instead.

Goddam, modern internet culture is both fascinating to me and utterly depressing in equal measure. I like the playfulness of a lot of it, but also hate the shallowness and the lack of any form of sincerity or self control. The attention culture created by social media is harsh.
