Democrats did assemble legislation by committee under Biden, but then they whittled it down to whatever could get through Joe Manchin and Mitt Romney, neither of whom were listening to anybody in the constellation of dem-adjacent interest groups.

No matter what has happened to jobs, wages or prices, Biden’s approval ratings have been stuck in the same bad place since November 2021.

If the U.S. wants to accelerate a green tech transition, it can either subsidize a green tech monopoly in China, or it can develop a domestic green tech industry to expand capacity. I think door #2 makes much more sense.

@ettingermentum Th3 1938 midterm was the fallout for trying to shift to balanced budgets during his second term and triggering a mini-recession. 1936 re-elect was one of the biggest blowouts in history.

Around the world, every economic path out of the pandemic has proven to be durably unpopular with voters. That suggests Democrats have a politics problem rather than an economics problem.

If you think Biden blew inflation through overspending (I don’t) you have to say what you think he should have cut / dropped and why that would have been politically palatable. To make an impact it would need to be big-ticket stuff.
