Remember when localizers cut out entire sections from Mushoku Tensei? They did this throughout the first 9 volumes! The publisher eventually had to go back and reissue entirely new, corrected editions.
Localizers have no one to blame but themselves.

Pandering grifter discovers ESG and is so disgusted he nearly vomits.
But if you thought this was happening with Starfield (mere months ago) you were a "cultist," you were falling for "manufactured outrage and lies," and he was just "exposing your cognitive dissonance."
@PrivateTom69
So they consult this firm to basically get a better "social credit score?"
With the hopes of getting more investors?
I think I just swallowed my own vomit
@EuricSerrinia
Exactly. Anki is still just flashcards, but you can go at a much faster pace, customize everything, and most importantly it should push you to start immersing and making your own cards.
@epsidawn
If you're just starting out you can import a premade beginner deck. This is the one you should use:
Beyond that there's an add-on called AnkiConnect and the browser extension Yomitan which allow you to create Anki cards with one click from your browser.
Localizers: I am an SJW Feminist Gamer, I hate Japan, I insert GamerGate references into my translations, I "fix" parts I find distasteful, and I am wrestling the medium away from the "sexist" fans.
Journalist: Woke agenda is a myth
It's a big problem. Localization issues are malignant. Western localizers consider Japanese stereotypes offensive, sexist, and homophobic; and therefore they need to be cut. And they've convinced Japanese companies that this is what the western market wants too.
Some people pointed out that according to the publisher it was the editors who made these changes, not the translators. Of course, the translators don't deserve blame if that's the case. The ones making the decisions are the ones to blame.

Watching the original Dragon Ball for the first time (thank you
@seedofmight
!) and this absolute banger of a song comes out of nowhere in the middle of the Red Ribbon Army arc. I love it.
@makro_art
I would agree with you if he was merely wrong and then changed his opinion.
He went out of his way for years to mock and belittle anyone who tried to point this stuff out. Even if you don't think he's a grifter like I do, there's no excuse to be so confidently incorrect.
@iuntue
The Portal devs talked about designing their levels so that the player's eyes were naturally guided to look in certain directions and intuitively understand where portals could/couldn't be placed. Wish I could find a video of it. The yellow paint is so embarrassing by comparison.
@HarmfulOpinions
Very common attitude from these types.
"The anonymous gamers are oppressing us! We're just poor helpless producers, directors, and journalists at major corporations."
@linkasobi
No, only listening and reading. And the N4 is very basic. Plus you only need a 50% score to pass. It doesn't require any kind of specialized study at all.
People just want faithful translations. They've been asking for years.
Since localizers have refused, AI will have to do. Why is this so hard to understand?
imagine how dull RPGs like Elden Ring, Dragon Quest, Xenoblade, etc. would be with AI localisation. so strange how comfortable some people are with this idea
@askasys
@Mondblut1984
The problem is that these aren't rogue localizers, they're hired because they're like this. They don't want accurate translations, they want to push their message. On top of that, ESG ensures these people get funded.
@MutsukiArchive
Gaijins do the same thing moving to Japan.
>Hate their current country, move to Japan because it’s nicer.
>"Japan is great, but…."
>Start campaigning to change Japan into the country they came from.
I'm partial to the Mario Wonder is a metaphor for class conflict review, where the light skinned privileged elite (Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Peach) repress the disenfranchised underclass (goombas and koopa troopas).
I didn't expect this post to get so much traction! Thank you to all my new followers.
I'm gonna post a few resources below for those of you starting to learn Japanese.
Localizers sometime use an advanced technique where they throw away the Japanese script (it's creepy and weird), ad-lib the dialogue, and make up the story themselves.
These people whining about the Eiyuden Chronicles localization have NO IDEA how far we've come. Just look at some of these gems we used to have to put up with. And you know what? We just took it in stride and laughed about it, because we all knew it was ridiculous.
@JenrelLouis
Pretty low. Basic grammar and vocab, only a few hundred kanji.
The JLPT has five levels from N1 (hardest) to N5 (easiest). I passed N2 and I'm not that great at Japanese.
@RageGoldenEagle
He's not really siding with gamers at all (or even pretending to), he's only complaining now that it's his characters being uglified. He even says he hates giving "gamergate men" fuel.
I can barely even talk with my IRL friends about the few things we share interests in anymore. My one anime watching friend described Oshi no Ko as "pedophilia" (he still watched the entire first season)
Incredible thread.
At a certain point it's no longer translating/localizing and is instead just rewriting. I'm glad I've gotten to the point where I can play this in Japanese.
Unicorn Overlord had a free demo released. After playing it, I can say quite confidently that the localisation is abhorrent. Here begins a thread of numerous examples.
I came across my old kanji writing practice notebook today. This was from a little over 4 years ago.
I fell for the RTK meme and did this before even starting to learn vocab/grammar (not recommended)
@ThatDudeGamer3
Calling people brainwashed cultists who have fallen for manufactured outrage and lies.
Simply asking questions.
Two different things. He was doing the first one.

Fanatical defenders of products and corporations are always like this.
"You don't like [garbage]? Well this other product also has [garbage]!"
This type of person can't comprehend that some people don't consume every product and actually avoid [garbage] in general.
Oh would you look 👀 at this I’m trying to play MINECRAFT legends on my Ps Portal and this notification saying I have to link my MICROSOFT account just popped up!!.. 👀
Maybe there's a connection between the games industry creating bloated, safe, designed by committee games for the lowest common denominator and them losing money?
News of a manga being released with an AI English translation just came out, and localizers are suddenly very worried that the original author's words might be "mangled" in translation.
Let's look at some examples of localizers "not mangling" Japanese media over the years. (1/x)
