His version came on during a father-son road trip in Alberta last month. My 4 year old loved it, and asked to hear the original too. Now we play it often, to relive that amazing moment driving through the praries, just the 2 of us.

You posted something like this back in 2012 on Hacker News. I read it, followed through, and turned it into the best proposal story ever. One of my highest rated comments on HN. Ring and surprise proposal in Rome. Just had our 2nd kid.
@TrungTPhan
Remember this tweet?
Tonight, I showed my son this video and said, "Nathan, you just watched Luke Combs fulfill a dream he probably had as a kid. Look at what you can accomplish if you work hard. Anything you dream, can happen."

Of course!
I found your response to my story:
Built Instacart's first Android app, used the money to buy a purple (her fav colour) sapphire custom ring, rest to fly to Rome on the last day of her trip, and hired a photographer.

Incorrect. $400k plus commission, LTT, and mortgage interest. And lost gains by not having that capital available to invest in non-RE. Like every bubble, people always buy the top and are others exit liquidity.

We had our first kid in 2018, and now having our second. This time, no visitors. So my son can't see his new sibling until we leave the hospital. Tragic that an experience so innocent and special is gone.

Unfortunately, poor is a mindset. It's a difficult to break out of. I don't know these people, but I will say, it's a mindset that many children of immigrants struggle to break out of.

I am grateful for LangChain for making prototyping easier. It allowed me to explore GPT outside of the ChatGPT UI in a really easy way. But I would agree that it’s opinionated API isn’t conducive to larger projects.

@alexisohanian
This is a very positive post. I don’t mean to undermine your point. My wife took 18+ months with both children. I took 3 months the first time, 1 month this time. I always put her appointments or the kids appointments first. Nothing is more important than my family.
I've spent the last 2 years building a team of highly ambitious individuals. We just launched a logistics platform for a major CPG that now handles $15B across 1000s of users.
Here's our 10 year plan, and how we plan to help everyone win with us. 🧵

@Jovanowsky
I agree with you but the difficulty in language is that “residents of Gaza” = Palestinians. Most of the outrage online ignores the nuance. Pro-Israel definitely means pro-Jews, but sometimes pro-govt. Pro-Palestine means pro-Palestinians but sometimes pro-Hamas. It’s hard man!
@tiffani
Remember Obama, and the worst they could drum up was his Kenyan father and Hawaii birth? And they tried to use that to say he shouldn’t be President, yet he’s arguably one of the best in history?
That’s the bar.
@wakeupcallLLC
I try to teach the same to my kids albeit a little differently. “Everyone is good at something. We are good at solving problems. Whenever we can, we should help everyone around us so that we’re all happy and safe.”
@paulg
As they should. I think kids should hold their fathers in high regard, but only after forming that opinion on their own through being raised. Opinions of your parents shouldn’t be set by external parties. It would be super weird if they did.
@Oliver_Trpcic
@ambermac
I mean, let’s start building? We should never have stopped building nukes. Make energy cheap and use tons of it. Good things will happen.
@tiffani
I’ve always loved Katt. I don’t always fuck with his comedy, but I recognize he is hard working, hilarious, and talented.
Even still, this interview was on another level.
Absolutely in love with

Agreed this isn’t that dissimilar to unpaid internships, and trope that you can’t pay rent with experience. I understand both sides of the coin, but I don’t think it’s fair to paint everyone with the same brush. Someone might take the $70k but don’t malign those who won’t/can’t.
@Golden_Pup
Who’s the 12%? Immunocompromised and elderly?
I would take it (again) if it actually prevented spread or prevented my kids from getting it. Neither is true.
When it was deadly in 2020 it made sense. Now it’s evolved to be more contagious but less deadly. So no need to vaxx

I never would have got married if I had waited. Part of it is growing together. But I agree with the others, the SO is not supposed to be the solution.
@patio11
@simonw
Honestly, I didn’t know this and was building APIs to do this, and a product around it. That might be “better” but this is faster. Thanks!!!
@amasad
@shaunmmaguire
Well that’s pretty brazen and a narrow interpretation of history. “We gave them something and look they attacked us.”
Or maybe if they had got a proper state, they might have just left you alone?
Maybe I’m too idealistic.
@tiffani
I said this as a comment somewhere else, but in my limited time in academia, I was told point-blank that “people like us” need to work that much harder than “them”. I thought it was super unfair but in hindsight, let’s just raise the bar.
@tiffani
Unfortunately, it’s due to physics. Ultrasound waves propagate better in higher density tissue, giving you better resolution. When I did my Masters, many women in the breast cancer side did try to fix this. Trust me, they knew.

It got me to explore how to use Whisper to transcribe Udemy courses, and use that to generate summaries. It got me to understand vector stores and how they’re very useful. But in my actual project? I’ll write straight Elixir.

Can I ask a question 🙋♂️? I’d like to be sensitive about this.
1st struggled w nursing, needed formula month 1. Later, he had FPIES, formula not an option, so wifey started taking domperidone.
Was this presented to you as option?
2nd son had 0 issues.

We are an anti-juice household and my MIL hates it.
Meanwhile, my 5yo will occasionally drink apple juice, but usually leaves more than half back. She’ll “force” him to drink it. We always tell him if he doesn’t want to drink it, no worries. He prefers water.
@s8mb
Congrats friend, you survived week 1. That is no small feat!
Keep prioritizing sleep, because it's important for at least 1 parent to get enough of it. Unfortunately, mom is usually not that 1.
Between now & 3mo is dicey, but it's better after that. 6mo+ is awesome.
@SimonHoiberg
Our company is the same, and it's worked extremely well for us. Two things set us apart though, we're all in the same-ish timezone, and we meet each other physically every quarter to plan & reconnect.

I think she might be right actually. But I’m not willing to try this to find out. I’m sorry, but as someone with an ethnic ass name that is actually impossible to pronounce, I won’t disrespect myself by changing my name.
@scottmelker
You gotta prompt it better. Also, I’m a career software engineer and I don’t want anyone to ever take ChatGPT away from me now. It is amazing.
@robfoot
Covid has mutated to be less of an issue and it generally affects kids less, so I’m ok skipping that shot now. Will revise that plan if evidence shows otherwise.
Given the flu’s morbidity in kids, I have all of us get the shot. Even if they could handle it, it’s inconvenient.
@catalinmpit
Once, as an intern, I nearly delayed the Mars Phoenix Lander launch by 9 months because the vendor used the wrong version of drawings to bend the leads for a rad-hardened IC that had a 12 month lead time to replace. I didn’t get fired.
@LizardOrman
@kitten_beloved
I wasn't referring to that part of it, just because I thought it was in the video for dramatic effect, and that is very far from my own reality. Wife & I are usually very well aligned on the outcome we want, but certainly not always the method by which we reach there.

This. I still believe in science, hard data, and the efficacy of vaccines. I’m not here saying we shouldn’t get MMRV or DTP vaccines. I’m not even saying don’t get the COVID vaccine. Just show me the data and let me decide based on my risk tolerance.
