In recent years definitely hype. High horology/complicated patek etc has always been strong even pre watch market boom.

I think it’s just mass misinformation from online content and once in a lifetime run ‘20-21 that caused it. As someone who sells watches even I lost multi 6 figs during crash.

Yeah even as crypto returned to those previous levels watches haven’t moved back up at all. Was a generational bubble tbh on watch market.
