By openly considering gender, identity, and transition, we hope to give listeners permission to engage these fascinating topics with less fear and more honesty.
Our Pioneers Series is making waves — and raising all kinds of questions about sex, gender, sexuality, paraphilia and the scientific method. This is a world first: we’ve never before heard from so many key figures. So we think it’s a good time to make a few
observations 🧵1/15
We had the pleasure of interviewing the sharp and incisive, Wes Yang, to talk about the rapid insertion of radical gender politics into law, medicine, and life.
This is a must-listen.

EP 1 Trans: Identity vs Dysphoria
Do trans people have a gendered soul or a mental health condition? We discuss the raging debate and consequences of taking either side in this polarized issue

What an honor to speak with Pioneer, Dr Riittakerttu Kaltiala!
Along with her team,
@kaltial
felt she was dealing with a population of dysphoric children on whom there was no reliable information.
@genspect
@stellaomalley3
@RethinkIME
Before intervention, they assessed children using a sex-congruent GD scale.
Post-intervention they switch to the opposite sex scale.
Does this accurately assess changes in the participants’ gender dysphoria?

@stellaomalley3
@genspect
These communities won’t always agree, and that’s healthy. What isn’t healthy is insisting that one group gets to raise objections louder than any other. If we want to get to the bottom of gender, dysphoria, paraphilia, or any complex matter, we have to listen to many voices 4/15
Episode 5! If you've ever wondered about institutional capture in the medical community regarding childhood gender transition, listen to our latest podcast episode with endocrinologist, Dr.

@RethinkIME
We believe academics should be able to share the details of their careful research without being accused of providing “excuses” or “destigmatizing” or “platforming” or even being “anti-safeguarding”.
If we’re applying the scientific method, we don’t cover up the evidence!

Big thanks to
@LisaLittman1

people with gender dysphoria are receiving inadequate psychological care

We look forward to exploring how other people disagree with us and taking a different approach.
However, if you see the value in the work we have done over the past year, please retweet,
share and help us spread the word. Let's be part of the solution! 15/15

The collapse of faith in our institutions is damaging public discourse. Because so many people no longer trust media outlets, politicians or other public figures, social media becomes the go-to place for raising concerns. But it’s easy to forget that’s not normal... 8/15
We are thrilled to speak with psychiatrist and pioneer, Stephen Levine. He addresses the exceptionalism that blinds many clinicians who work with gender-questioning clients.
@RethinkIME
@genspect
@stellaomalley3
Academics and clinicians disagree with one another. Who knew! Some think there’s an innate predisposition to paraphilias; some don’t. We just don’t know. But some of us would like to figure this out not least because it would help many vulnerable people, including children 5/15
Our aim is look at gender through a wider lens... hence the name! There are lots of people affected by the surge in gender issues, from women and children to transsexuals and detransitioners — not to mention LGB people, parents, therapists and policy-makers... 3/15
Gender exceptionalism works both ways! Pro-transition activists think gender overrides every other concern — and, as it turns out, so do some opposing voices. But the scientific method establishes what IS true, not what OUGHT to be true. With that in mind...6/15
Since the 1970s, there’s been a massive societal shift in how we deal with gender issues.
We all have our intuitions and suspicions about what’s happened, but we have to give priority to expert researchers. That’s why we’re proud that we’ve showcased these pioneers’ work. 2/15
GIDS therapists reported that the new population of ‘trans kids’ used remarkably similar language, scripted responses, and had a clear goal in mind.
@RethinkIME
@genspect
@stellaomalley3
We do this by talking, because we are therapists. That means we’ll continue interviewing
controversial figures and discussing difficult topics. If you have any genuine concerns, please raise this
via correct protocol 11/15

No matter how bleak you are feeling, a little humour can go a long way. ... in fact, it’s
actively harmful to mental health to stop people laughing. Being able to giggle, to groan, to
laugh or to moan is a part of our emotional tapestry — and a necessary part, too. 13/15

@stellaomalley3
Many of us worry about our collective mental health in the social media age, where isolation, anxiety and mental distress seem to be growing almost exponentially. So let’s not allow Twitter to make us humourless. There’s enough of that in the world already! 14/15
...and we shouldn’t normalize it. People with genuine fears about risks or dangers or
safeguarding should follow established protocols: first, get in touch via email to explain your
concerns. It may not generate as many likes, but the system is there for a reason! 9/15
Because this field is so criminally under-researched, we have chosen to speak to a variety of people who have been impacted by gender, to reach a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. Many will object: but we believe that it is vital to fill the many gaps in the knowledge 10/
It’s easy to tweet; it’s harder to make change. Clinicians and activists in the field are making real strides in 2022, and that’s only going to speed up. So it’s natural to expect those at the edges of the debate to feel overlooked. The answer: produce your own content! 12/15
Hear about the legal challenges facing detransitioners, covering key issues like informed consent, systemic healthcare challenges, and the experimental nature of many gender affirming treatments.
