The worst polio outbreak in US history was in 1952. There were 58,000 cases and 4,000 deaths. It spurred a unified public and government national response.
Today, with almost 1,600,000 cases and 100,000 deaths, there are people telling us COVID-19 is no big deal.
According to MAGA, 700,000 semis (about a fourth of the total in the US) are heading to the Texas border.
So 700,000 truckers just up and left their jobs and families and stole their companies' trucks to go to the border?
I'm calling bullshit.
I fell down a COVID rabbit hole yesterday and people were talking routinely about how millions were dropping like flies from the vaccine.
Not from COVID; the vaccine. Like morgues were full of vaccine victims.
Really?
I see absolutely nothing that Mitch McConnell has gained by endorsing Trump.
He could have walked out the door with some shred of decency intact, but chose not to. Why?
@hemantmehta
Just read an article about this guy. He had a small congregation until he started the hate sermons. That's what draws the crowds, and that's what's really scary.
In the past I voted mostly Republican in national races, but never voted a straight ticket. Now, since the GOP has gone insane by supporting Trump, I'm proudly voting a straight ticket for the Democrats for the first time ever.

@DanCrenshawTX
Every federal contractor I ever worked for required drug tests. I look forward to your legislation repealing this egregious violation of individual rights.
@Caring_Atheist
Trump's the guy in high school who didn't read "Hamlet", and then says things like "Hamlet...great guy...did some good stuff, some bad... amazing play...can't decide on my favorite part..."
@EWErickson
By that logic, the Confederate soldiers were fighting to perpetuate our nation's original sin. Will you then condemn the Confederacy and those who today fly the Confederate flag and venerate Confederate leaders?
@nytopinion
@jorgeramosnews
The biggest gripe I've had with journalism during the Trump regime is their inability to see Trump as pathological. Trump would say something off-the-wall batshit crazy, and the pundits would go to their panels and act if they were analyzing some subtle nuance of tax policy.
@chuckwoolery
"Racism has nothing to do with race."
I would try to figure out how that makes any sense whatsoever, but I think it would be a total waste of time.
@JoyAnnReid
This must be fairly common. I watched my father get angrier and more and more racist after watching Rush Limbaugh's TV show daily. I don't know whether Rush changed him, or he watched Rush to confirm his own biases. Either way, it was a positive feedback loop that was malignant.
@softuch25
I don't think politics is a matter of different opinions on policy anymore. It's basically whether or not I share basic human values that I think are important, and I've found in a lot of cases that I don't.
Laura Loomer lost her Florida primary, but she got 45% of the vote. 45% voted for a deranged far-right loon. The Villages gave her over 50%. Those seniors are nuts.
@mndailynews
@samanthajhendr
I assume this would apply to armed, camo-wearing thugs who take over state capitols, but I'm not sure they'd be much affected by not being able to get student loans.

Yes, Canada, Mexico, and the EU closing their borders to the US demonstrates their respect for our leadership regarding COVID-19.
If I was a member of a church that's using my donations to sue to have services and choir practice in the middle of a pandemic, I'd find another church.
@macarthur54
To all Canadians: The meth lab downstairs has been raided and cleared out. The rooms have been scrubbed and sanitized, and a nice older couple have moved in.
@ericareport
I think indicting Trump will trigger violence. The violence will come from the right.
The Democrats will be having nationwide block parties.
However, if we don't indict because we're afraid of violence, we've already lost.
So if and when it comes, let the Republicans own it.
@justinenlawson
@Wonderful_Ed
I noticed this watching my parent's friends as they got older. If the woman died first, the men usually shriveled up and died soon after. If the man died first, the woman began a whole new life: friends, traveling, social clubs, etc.
@AllenWest
Yes, instead of preventing disease, let's wait until people get it, take up hospital resources, and get monoclonal antibody treatment that costs many times more than the vaccine. Makes sense to MAGAs, I guess.
@ScottWalker
Which do you think is worse about the GOP, their obsequious support of a malignant narcissist, or their abandonment of every principle they ever claimed to have?
@PSchmaling
They're hypocrites, and always have been.
They abandoned Jimmy Carter, an actual Christian, for Ronald Reagan. Sold their souls for power and tax cuts.
So the eighth-grader we have running for President has a nickname for Nikki Haley: Birdbrain.
And people want to give this douchebag the nuclear codes.
@AuthorKimberley
The same people supporting the current truck protests would be calling for BLM protesters to be mowed down in the name of law and order.
@KariLake
First, you have to prove any elections were rigged. Not just allegations, "could haves", anecdotes, "somebody said". You need names, numbers, proof. "Here's a list of 100,000 dead voters, and here's their signed, forged ballots."
You don't have that.
@JeffBernthal
Someone was holding a sign, "The science is clear. Masks don't work."
I hate it when non-scientists try to use science to claim the opposite of what the science says. And then the rubes eat it up and say, "I'm following the science!"
🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦
@patriottakes
I have a real problem with "God-given rights". Where in the history of religion, or in the Bible, is the right to free speech and assembly? Where is the right to bear arms?
If anything, freedom of religion is expressly forbidden ("Thou shalt have no other gods...").
@NoLieWithBTC
Dark Brandon knows how to play the game.
Does MTG show up for a photo-op with Biden, who she's been trying to impeach for two years? Or does she skip a groundbreaking in her own district? Also, Biden will remind everyone MTG voted against the infrastructure bill.
@reginaldedward3
I'd like them to cite where in the Bible it says that. They usually point to the Noah's ark story, where animals are grouped with "their own kind", which shows that if you thump the Bible hard enough, you can get it to say anything.
@LadyJ41
Well, considering how the right lost it when Michelle Obama wore a sleeveless dress, we can pretty much dismiss their defense of Melania as gross hypocrisy.
@patriottakes
Can anyone name a country, in all of history, that adopted a nationalistic credo where it did not result in oppression of minorities, increased internal divisions, and ultimately war?
@repdarrellissa
So, let me get this straight. Biden has apprehended MORE people on the terror watch list than Trump did? And you think that's bad why, exactly?
@Robin_Blue19
It's really more of a rural/urban divide. There are rednecks in California and progressives in Alabama.
But I prefer to stay in the South and subvert from within.
@B52Malmet
He's willing to go on immunosuppressive drugs for the rest of his life, but not get a vaccine against a virus that would almost certainly kill him if he was immunocompromised.
Nuts.
@TheTweetOfGod
People are saying that Ivanka and Don Jr. were about to be indicted for fraud until a Trump attorney gave a political donation to the DA. People are talking about this. Is it true?
Yes. It IS true.
@jayewatson
The only thing that surprises me about people who get thrown under the bus by Trump is that after four years, people are surprised when they get thrown under the bus by Trump.
@DanCrenshawTX
Jesus told some rich guy to give all his money to the poor if he wanted to follow him. Jesus didn't say that it was morally neutral if the guy decided not to do it. If Jesus came back today, the evangelicals would denounce him as a raging socialist.

@BetoORourke
@tedcruz
The fact that Ted Cruz thinks this is a damning video against O'Rourke speaks volumes about him and his target audience.
@jeremynewberger
Look at all the people in this country, with information available instantly at their fingertips, who still believe the 2020 election was stolen, Trump is a brilliant American patriot being unfairly persecuted, and the Earth is 6000 years old.
@PikachuSerena
Nixon was a crook, but he definitely was not stupid. Privately he could be unhinged, but he never was in public. He also knew that the GOP at the time would not let him get away with just anything, and in the end it was the GOP who told him he had to resign. How times change.
@magisternihil
I want to know why in science fiction movies, when they're about to blow up a spaceship or research facility, the countdown is always done by a calm, emotionless female voice.
@RadioFreeTom
Should we play the "What would the reaction on the right be if Obama had said he would declare a state of national emergency, seize private land, and order the military to build the wall" game?
