I'd like all young Taiwanese to watch this. That's where, among others, Taiwan democracy began. Under the authoritarian regime, ballot rigging had been a common practice. Ppl, with a limited right to vote in some local elections, started to question the ballot counting. (1/3)
Now, ppl ask why Taiwan, with its advanced technology, resists so hard adopting an electronic way of voting & ballot counting. Beyond the very particular national security concerns, there's also this historical background that could hardly be underestimated. (3/3)
That's a long story. But this very unmodern ballot counting process, which looks even a bit clumsy, has become a fundamental element in a democracy that we trust in Taiwan. Open & transparent, with supervising eyes on every single ballot. (2/3)

Law must fight back even in face of no prospects for victory. Options must be explored to show that attempts were made, and once the smoke clears hopefully there will be momentum to revamp the post-WW2 setup of international law that is falling apart before our eyes. (10/12)

Same. Few countries in the world can survive a 7.2 magnitude quake like
#Taiwan
does. Today we're apparently a country different from the one devastated by the 1999 quake. It's the resilient society that we keep building up here that makes TSMC possible, not the way around.
I'm kind of tired of the news paying attention to Taiwan because of TSMC and the chips it produces. Hey, we have people on this island, not just chips. Chips production also needs ppl (or, you say, talents). Earthquake affects ppl too, not just the chips.
Chips, chips, chips.

After a first one at 7.8 ML last night, a second earthquake (7.6 ML) has just hit the south of Turkey. Thousands are under the rubble.
IF you can, AKUT is one of the safest places to donate: (for info, £1=22.65TL, €1=20.27TL, $1=18.83TL)
