We’re happy to share a message from our CEO, Amar Ali: As 2024 draws to a close, I share the sense of hope among the malaria community for renewed progress, as a new wave of innovation is finally starting to become reality. Thanks to fresh thinking, deep partnerships and incredible efforts on multiple fronts, this year saw the remarkable scale-up of life-saving, next-generation dual active-ingredient bed nets, and they are already rolling out to the communities that need them. Our plans for a manufacturing site in Nigeria are progressing, and I look forward to continuing the work to bring production closer to the communities we serve. As the holiday period approaches, every day this week our team will share personal highlights from 2024. I sincerely thank all our friends, collaborators, and the global health community for sharing this journey with us, and look forward to the milestones we will achieve together in 2025. In the meantime, I wish everyone a restful and peaceful festive season. #GlobalHealth #ZeroMalaria

Next-gen insecticide-treated nets are fighting mosquito resistance and cutting malaria rates by half. In 4 years, they've protected 13M+ people & saved 24K lives. More families are gaining access, and we’re driving innovation forward. Standing still isn’t an option. Together with @BASF & @United2Beat, the #NextChapterOfProgress begins now. #ZeroMalaria #GlobalHealth #WorldMalariaReport

The #WorldMalariaReport is an annual barometer of progress and setbacks in the fight against this deadly disease. The good news? Since 2000, the death rate has been cut in half, 26 countries have eliminated the disease, and 2.2 billion malaria cases have been averted. But despite these impressive gains, 2023 saw 11 million more cases than the year before. Equitable access to key interventions remains critical. Last year, 255 million insecticide-treated bed nets reached families, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. 20% of these were new, next-generation dual active-ingredient nets. While six in ten young children and expectant mothers were sleeping under nets, in the overall population at risk, only about half were doing so. These numbers matter more as social and environmental factors make it harder to get nets to every family that needs one – but it's never been more important. Get the full picture in @beatmalaria's helpful digest of the 2024 World Malaria Report, and find out how you can take action to help get the world back on track towards ending malaria in our lifetimes:

When communities have access to insecticide-treated bed nets and other protective tools, it changes everything. Instead of spending money on treating malaria, parents can invest in their children's education and future. Restful nights replace worry. While innovations and new technology are helping more communities stay healthy, for many others this essential protection remains out of reach. Behind every number in the #WorldMalariaReport there is a family with a story. These stories remind us what's at stake, and show why expanding access matters. The 2024 World Malaria Report pinpoints a persistent gap in prevention. While we’re making strides in improving insecticide-treated bed net technology to combat resistance, that innovation counts for little if there’s a barrier to access. The report shows that for every person at risk of malaria who sleeps under a bed net, there’s another who does not. Among young children and pregnant women and girls the situation is slightly better, with 59% use reported. While an encouraging but small uptick has been seen in the last 2 years, the situation has been largely static since 2015. There's momentum for change with the “Big Push” framework. This March, 11 countries with the highest malaria burden signed the Yaoundé Declaration, making access to prevention tools a priority. The 2024 World Malaria Report is out! It shows we've collectively prevented 2.2 billion malaria cases and saved 12.7 million lives since 2000. Even better – 44 countries are now malaria-free, with more on the path to join their ranks. Insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) are fundamental to malaria control, and it is heartening to see that in 2023, household ITN ownership in sub-Saharan Africa reached 73%. In March 2023, @WHO recommended the use of dual pyrethroid-chlorfenapyr bed nets in areas battling insecticide resistance – the first of an emerging, next-generation arsenal of tools. In 2023, 78% of ITNs delivered to sub-Saharan Africa were either PBO or dual active-ingredient nets. But while we celebrate these successes, there is still a lot of work to do. With 263 million cases and 597,000 malaria deaths worldwide in 2023, there were about 11 million more cases than in 2022. A US$4.3 billion funding gap is slowing innovation and limiting access to essential new tools. Following @WHO's recommendation for dual active-ingredient nets, we pulled out all the stops to scale up as fast as possible. Everyone at risk for malaria should be able to sleep safely. Working in partnership with the malaria community, we will continue to push forward together! For more insights, check out the full report: #WorldMalariaReport #GlobalHeath
