I suspect this as well. Also, even if you think Maduró has turned Chavezismo into a more caudillo like direction, many Caudillos of all ideological stripes win real elections. Bonapartism is collaborationist but tends to be popular. Part of its mixed character.
Maduro probably won fair and square not so much due to his own popularity but because the right wing opposition is so awful. If any evidence comes out contrary I’ll eat my words.
