Time really does fly when you're having fun! 🚴♂️ We first met Brodie and his family back in 2016 when Variety Victoria granted him his very first adaptive bike. Brodie lives with disability, and his bike has brought him so much—joy, independence, transport, quality family time, and a way to stay active. Brodie’s mum, Deanne, has kindly kept us updated on his journey over the years. Speaking about his adaptive bikes, she shared, “He absolutely loves it and is getting better and better at riding.” A big thank you to Deanne for sharing these incredible videos of Brodie in action—we absolutely love hearing from our Variety family! Go, Brodie, go! 🎉 *Please note that on occasions Brodie cannot wear a helmet due to sensory issues but is always under parental supervision.

We love getting updates from families we support! Last year we granted Devin an assistance dog, Earl. Devin's parents, Mary and Russell, shared how much Earl has changed their lives. "We were granted an assistance dog two years ago, and Earl joined us in June... he's quickly become a part of our family - he’s our fifth child. Earl keeps Devin calm and alerts us to any seizures. He’s Devin’s best friend, and he’s changed Devin’s life. Earl has boosted his [Devin's] confidence and keeps him calmer in situations he would normally find traumatic. His independence has grown so much that, recently, he umpired his first Western Districts football game. One standout moment was a dentist visit, where Devin normally wouldn't allow the dentist to touch him. With Earl there, he was calm throughout. It was such a change. We understand this is a huge commitment from Variety and the funders, and we can’t say thank you enough. Earl has changed our lives." As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible achievements of our talented 2024 Variety Heart Scholars. Among them is Kiara, whose passion for the performing arts, singing, and dancing inspires her to create songs that touch hearts and make a difference. For Kiara and her family, the high costs of singing lessons presented a significant challenge. But thanks to her Variety Heart Scholarship, the barriers are lifting. This year, Kiara has not only continued to pursue what she loves most but also unlocked new opportunities, like participating in the Variety Future Leaders Program.
