I rode an Uber in Sheffield today. The driver was a Palestinian man from Gaza. I told him I couldn't apologize on behalf of the Israeli people, but asked him to accept apologies on behalf of my family, even though I knew apologies alone were unhelpful. He was extremely gracious.

I was in Oxford once chatting with a guy. I told him about my interest in Arabic and he said he spoke Somali, which was also a Semitic language. I explained to him that yes, they’re both Afroasiatic, but Somali belongs to a different branch called Cushitic. He blocked me.
