When I used the old British Rail, it was tired but affordable, ran to places beyond just the main line & was generally on time. The bad reputation was largely based on TV sketch show jokes about the sandwiches. Now you can get a designer panini but need a mortgage to get a train.

When we buried my dad there were seven of us. In separate aisles. No friends. None of his siblings. No old comrades. No flowers. My wife & daughter watched on zoom in the car park. We couldn't hug my mam. The Tories partied and laughed at us. The rules didn't apply to them.

Forgive my simmering but my dad died during lockdown & there 8 of us at the funeral. Sticking to the rules. He was my disabled mam's carer. She spent last Xmas locked down in a care home, crying as we we stood outside her window. Sticking to the rules.
