North Linthorpe elite, European, legacy Boro fan, fanzine contributor, father, fiancé, retweets NOT endorsements, ALL views (however misguided/profane) are MINE
The richest man ever to set foot in the House of Commons is about to take £20 a week off our poorest citizens today. As the cost of food, fuel and inflation rises. Doesn’t get bleaker than that really, does it?
Lynn works for me. She is single & earns considerably less than 30k, lives in her dead mother’s house in Central Norwich, has no tertiary education, uses a bus pass for travelling to work saves money every month, goes on coach holidays & probably does not need to use a foodbank.
14 May 2024: “the UK is safer with the Conservatives”
15 May 2024: “some of you will need to boil your tap water for at least 22 minutes if you plan on drinking it”
Remember five years ago when nobody gave a toss about the EU, we had plenty of fuel, plenty of food, Christmas was never under threat, we weren’t culling our livestock and Arron Banks wasn’t a thing?
Yeah, I’d love it if we could go back to that.
Love it.
I’m so saddened by what my country has become. Is anyone else with me on this? This definitely isn’t the country I knew ten years ago. It’s so very sad. I’m genuinely at a loss. What’s this mess all for?? Can’t we just go back to pre-Brexit??
Feels quite positive that the country is now lead by a former chief prosecutor and human rights lawyer, rather than a greedy former hedge fund manager. Doesn’t it?
What exactly do the tories “love” about Britain? They don’t love the NHS or our welfare state. They hate teachers and judges. They’re not big on immigration. They hate the BBC. Not fans of paying tax. They pretend to like the police. They abhor the poor. Help me out here?!? 🤷🏻♂️
This is the problem. He’ll go back to being portrayed as the jaunty, harmless oddity, like he was when he appeared on HIGNFY as an obscure backbench MP.
He is none of those things. He’s a dangerous and extreme hard right authoritarian zealot.
Let’s not indulge this nonsense.
Are any other countries putting their respective armed forces on standby because they’ve unilaterally sabotaged their food supply chain? No? Just us then…
Will Sunak’s new wider definition of “hating Britain” cover those individuals who pretend to be patriots yet use non-dom status to avoid contributing to our country’s tax revenue?
Mark Ramprakash absolutely knocking it out the park on
@BBCBreakfast
just now re the Ollie Robinson situation. Measured, sensible yet Frank. “If I were Ollie Robinson I don’t think I’d want the prime minister voicing his public support for me, he’s known for saying racist things”
Things Dominic Raab hasn’t seen coming:
1. The Taliban takeover of Afghanistan;
2. The importance of the Good Friday Agreement and its fragility post Brexit;
3. The importance of the UK’s proximity to Calais re imports/exports of goods.
The Foreign Secretary, folks! Seriously.
Michael Gove - "I've had it up to here with people trying to suggest that this country is not generous... all the stuff about hostile environments, that was invented under a Labour home secretary... so can we just chuck it on the partisan nonsense & get on with delivering"
Watching Suella Braverman tonight did genuinely make me question my own role/life/career as a solicitor. Her values are so far removed from mine that I honestly can’t reconcile how we could possibly be in the same profession. Hopefully, I’m on the right side of history.
I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that we obeyed the rules. I haven’t seen my mum for 9 weeks. My father in law was in a hospital bed, alone, for 8 weeks. We stayed home. We lost a family member to cancer. We missed the funeral. How can anyone still support Johnson?
That “woke” snipe aimed at Gareth Southgate by Matt Le Tissier really was unnecessary and churlish. It’s clearly motivated by jealousy but to see him and Farage boorishly guffawing together at the expense of a genuinely decent and inoffensive bloke leaves a really bitter taste.
I’m always staggered by the sheer number of well-off people who insist that they would be better at being poor than poor people. As if it’s just a case of knowing how to knock up an omelette for 80 pence... 🤷🏻♂️
Regardless of your thoughts re the target of this tweet, the fact is that an elected MP should not be engaging in such crass and offensive discourse on a social media platform. Could you imagine Ken Clarke or Michael Portillo posting stuff like this? The 2019 intake are dreadful.
James Daly: “hello, police? I’d like to report a crime, please”
Police: “what’s the crime, sir?”
JD: “there’s been a crime”
P: “yes, sir. Can you be more specific, please?”
JD: “a crime”
P: “yes, sir. What is the crime you’d like to report?”
JD: “STOP SHOUTING AT ME!!”
What strikes me most is that James Daly hasn’t got a snowball’s chance in Hell of retaining his seat but he’s happy to spend the rest of his days as an ex Tory MP who’s gonna literally be known only for the time he grassed Angela Rayner up to the dibble
So, full context, my stepmother is Albanian. Her family are gorgeous. Clever. Industrious. Entrepreneurial and, frankly, the most genuinely earnest and welcoming people I’ve ever met. I’m so sick of ignorant bigots using their nationality as a negative trope. Just stop.
Darren Grimes does not speak for Middlesbrough. He doesn’t speak for the North East. My region was built on economic refugees. We built the world on cooperation and integration. He speaks for a sinister cabal trying to divide us. Don’t listen to him. They’re using him. Be real.👊
I’d never been to a food bank until today. My word. It’s not a pleasant experience. The staff were fantastic. Lovely people. But seeing good people needing food because they can’t afford to feed their families was a real eye opener. Please, please help your local food bank.🙏

In the meantime, since it was added, the cost of living has shot up (food, gas, inflation, tax etc), so I’m afraid you’re wrong in your assessment. It’s needed now more than ever. Can you work full time as a single parent of young children or if you’re a full time carer?
@markjenkinsonmp
This post simply adds weight to the argument that all prospective MPs should pass an IQ test before they’re allowed to run for parliament.
I’ve seen some pretty grim stuff in the news lately, but seeing members of far right extremist rabble Britain First harassing refugees in their hotel rooms is going to take some beating. Actually makes me nauseous just thinking that there are people like that out there.
So it begins... “elite remainers” like me are the reason this dense, mullet-sporting piece of human gristle has buggered up his own business because he bought into a massively flawed ideology.
Wetherspoon founder hits at ‘elite Remainers’ as profits fall
Trying to get my head around the fact that our Brexit Party MEPs abstained from a vote on a European Parliament resolution calling for Iran to release imprisoned dual EU-Iranian nationals, including Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. Anyone have any thoughts on this??
After 13 years of ruining our country, just imagine the positive messages they could have adopted: “Save Our NHS”, “Better Social Care”, “Improving Education” etc… But no. Instead, this is their message to the people they both represent and despise. I’m ashamed to be British now
If you’re from the North East, look around you. Where’s your infrastructure? Your public transport? Your health service? Your social care? The jobs they promised? What are the schools like? Your roads? Public services? Your environment? Sunak has gaslighted us all today. Get gone
Can someone, anyone, tell me why we would want to dealign (in terms of environmental, agricultural, food and employment standards) from the EU and force a closer alignment with the USA? Anyone? Genuine question. What does the USA do better than the EU? Again, genuine question.
The likes of Rory Stewart and Dominic Grieve remind us that the current mob in government are merely extremists whose policy is motivated solely by one ideology (Brexit) and is a Conservative government in name only.
Before we celebrate the apparent imminent departure of Cummings, we should take time to reflect on the potentially irreversible damage this arrogant, cowardly chancer has inflicted upon our nation, society and political system. Make no mistake, he leaves the UK broken and adrift.
We have a right wing government with an unassailable majority, that owns the majority of the domestic media and dictates the political narrative, admits they’ll only invest in constituencies with a Tory MP and is about to gerrymander further. Are we a becoming a one party state?
This is what happens when a proper journalist goes after him. He’s a mess. His usual bluster, spin and hubris might work on the likes of Mike Hughes at
@TheNorthernEcho
but it won’t fool Victoria Derbyshire. So glad that the national media is now all over this. Hope it continues

@vicderbyshire
ripping apart the questionable Mayor Ben Houchen.
Tories have put in £560+ million of OUR money into this terrible project. So far,
@ft
reports the two men and their families have taken £124 million out.
The Tax Payers Alliance must be absolutely livid with the fact that we’ve all just covered a £400k hit on an employment tribunal all because the government didn’t want to admit that Priti Patel shouted at people at work.
Expect a very dirty election campaign from the tories from this point onwards. They’ll show you exactly who they really are. Which is why they’ll get absolutely trounced. Bring it on 👊
What do we think Boffle was promised for that ridiculous tirade last night?
A peerage? Another crack at leadership?
He *definitely* didn’t do it for nowt.
If Houchen goes in May, the chances of an earlier General Election increase significantly. Further incentive, if it were needed, to vote Houchen out.

Why are we so accepting of the fact that an elected public servant has abdicated his public-funded job in order to appear on a reality television programme in order to boost his own personal brand? The apathy is almost as astounding as his brazen disregard for his constituents.
