New York City: Tibor Del Grosso (Alpecin-Deceuninck) wins the GP, Caddeo and Beccaria the GFNY
In a world premiere, thousands of riders at the Michelob Ultra GFNY World Championship NYC chased the pros of the inaugural Gran Premio New York City

Arensman ends career because she is discouraged after finishing fourth at US CX champs between two trans women.
It’s the price we’re apparently willing to pay for this particular inclusiveness.
Is there a negative long term implication?
“Protest against ALLOWING trans MALES RACING AGAINST FEMALES are anticipated at US Nationals”
There, I fixed it for you
@BicyclingMag
.
None of them want to exclude trans athletes from racing. NONE! Claiming otherwise is dangerous and you know it.
Two things today:
1. No top pro team wanted to sign Anna Kiesenhofer when I asked back in 2015.
2. Last year she decided to retire after Olympics because of her dislike for peloton riding. She did the warm-up loop today 3m behind the peloton - and attacked asap.
Riding with my dad today. Lifetime bike tourer. Got me into riding at 14 when we crossed the alps. Now 76 and slowed down by leukemia and bitching heart, he’s happy to do 30k on his e-bike. We rolled at 20kph on flats and then he just kept the speed up the 6-8% climb. 🥵
A multi-year sponsor of GFNY discontinued their sponsorship because I refused to print their ad showcasing convicted doper Alejandro Valverde.
We are told that cycling is different today. That Omertà is history. That's not my experience.
This is a story of Omertà in cycling.
Austin will always be welcome at our GFNY races in the male category. He would be alongside other transwomen who wouldn’t think of racing against females.
UCI: no trans women in female category 👏
I’m glad I have a record of the misogynists in the cycling press harassing me back in November for applying this rule at
@gfny
.
People ask me why I still follow pro cycling although I seem to “hate it”.
I don’t think you can be truly antidoping unless you want to see clean the sport you love clean. I would say you don’t truly love the sport unless you are antidoping.
An attempt at an explanation:
Imagine there would be a legal shoe that makes you run your marathon significantly faster.
Now imagine this shoe would be sold by a company that directly & knowingly financially supports doping in running.
Would you buy the shoe and support doping?
Happy ethical Monday!
Salazar banned by USADA for 4 years for doping athletes.
Current Salazar athletes include:
🇬🇧Mo Farah
🇺🇸Galen Rupp
🇯🇵Suguri Osaku
🇩🇪K Klosterhalfen
It is not yet public who of them was doped. Draw your own conclusions.
Doping knows no borders.
@realSteveNagy1
@amrook
I’m yet to meet someone who denies trans women to compete in the male category (the one most trans women compete in). Have you?
I was attacked by Germans in 1997 when I accused Ullrich.
I was attacked by Americans in 1999 when I accused Armstrong.
I was attacked by British in 2011 when I accused Wiggins.
Now I’m getting attacked by Colombians when I point out the obvious.
Time will always tell the truth.
Ullrich comes across as genuine as ever. He says he thinks he would have been among the best without drugs but I’m yet to come across a doper saying the contrary.
He grew up in the GDR sports system so his claim that he started doping in 1996 seems unlikely. It’s moments like
It’s the golden age to get 2nd hand rim brake road bikes. I’ve seen some great ti frame & 2019 carbon bikes for sale.
Rim brakes are
- lighter
- less maintenance
- don’t squeak or rub
and they are ENOUGH. You can block your wheels on rim brakes. What else do you need?
If you are calling out Pogacar after a decade of being mute about doping, you are either a pathetic chauvinist, a disgusting opportunist or dumb as a brick.
Petacchi, who was banned for having been caught with 1320ng/ml salbutamol.
“How the hell did Froome get to 2000ng/ml?”
Petacchi asks because he was likely injecting the stuff himself.
So he actually knows well: Froome was injecting in addition to inhaling.
Day 6 of total lockdown.
Day 12 without school or daycare.
Kids are 6, 4 and 0.7.
Every day is like a rainy Sunday with a broken car during which both parents have to work.
But everyone is healthy and I’m even tweeting. We’re fortunate!
This. Will. Pass!
THE FUTURE OF PRO CYCLING
👉300+km stages, not 100km
👉no race radios, powermeters, bike changes
👉leave TV behind
👉mass start races to connect fans with pros
👉use cycling’s roots as guiding principles

Roglič
2016:
gets caught with a glowing hub that may indicate motor use
2020:
(1) leads the Tour through the mountains
(2) after last mountain stage a motor check creates a dispute between DS and commissaire
(3) loses time trial by 2 minutes
.
@janfrodeno
took the time to chat over last days - thx!
We agreed on working together in boosting credibility of athletes by
1) creating an OOC testing program that fills gaps &
2) setting up live broadcast from motordoping controls at big races.
More on this in January.
Armstrong is right, that’s “fucking bullshit”. But he wishes to be treated like them while they should actually be treated like him.
I do it. No race invites, no ads, no publicity.
Second chance in life? Yes. Second chance in sports? Absolutely not.
Thank you
@protriorg
for having allowed me to set up motordoping controls at your Championship. I'm glad that the necessity of this has been acknowledged to ensure the integrity of the competition.
These controls are important and effective in triathlon. Here is why.
Give them a second chance in life but any doper should be done for good with competing.
Talk to me when you’re cool having a bank clerk who stole cash to work for your bank. No one is ever going to hire that guy so why let dopers compete again?
@MrT_runner
Yes, I believe in lifetime bans. I think once you chose to use banned substances, you give up the privilege of competing in elite sport. But, there is no lifetime ban for first known offenses, so technically they are allowed back.
I spoke to a pro who had a missed test due to bad planning. For one full year he was extra scared to happen to have another, let alone 3.
So yes, I think she’s a doper. Not sure why this should make me watch another sport.
EPO doper Dürr (banned 2014) did a crowdfunding for rehabilitation back into the sport and writing a book about his clean return. He collected 35,000 Euro and used it...
...to blood dope!! 😂😂😂
All you gullible “second chance” people do not deserve better than getting robbed.

Leave me alone with your event featuring a doper. I’m not star struck because someone raced the Tour on drugs.
I’m star struck when I meet my old teammate who had a signed pro contract but walked away from cycling because he didn’t want to dope.
Those are my kind of heroes.
@ulif
@Scienceofsport
I understand your point but... don't people deserve a second chance, specially after he already paid for what he did many years ago?
There seems to be a growing number of people who believe that doping is just a necessary part of a thorough preparation for a competition and that not doping shows lack of commitment.
Fuck you.
Valverde merely joined a long list of (ex-)pros that have been and will be refused GFNY as a platform. Some were never convicted but are highly suspicious, others were convicted like e.g. Alberto Contador.
GFNY does not need doped pros. Every rider is the star of our races.
You say “Why are you so obsessed about antidoping? They’re all at it so it’s a level playing field.”
You don’t have a team mate who won it all U23, had a signed world tour contract but walked from his dream/career/$$$ because he knew he would have to dope to be competitive.
It’s good to see Froome and Farah relegated to where they should always have belonged. They are prime examples of the influence drugs have on competition.
When average athletes can dominate a sport, it’s no longer sport. WWF doesn’t claim to be sport.
Thanks to
@Stelbel_telai
for this incredible frame.
A titanium frame geometry can be aggressive if you make it. Stock titanium frames suffer from too tall head tubes which make for good touring bikes but are unsuitable for racing.
Froome was double above the threshold. That’s a positive test. Should be banned immediately and retroactively. Amount of substance indicates intention which means 4 year ban. Then he can appeal.
A women who was beaten - figuratively and literally - by a trans woman quits racing because she can no longer handle it. Now she’s called “transphobe”.
No surprise that women don’t protest while men like him puke their insults at them.
I’m disgusted by these male cycling
Yeah, we are fine with transphobes quitting. That price is pretty low actually, cycling shouldn’t be a welcoming space for misgendering and transphobia.
“Peloton radio reported on an undetectable drug that burns fat and grows muscles. There were quite a few riders at Sky who suddenly shrunk in half but rode twice as fast.”
Dominik Nerz, ex-Bora in Tour Mag interview about his anorexia and skinny riders.
Athletes who dope to attain low fat while retaining strength, put honest athletes, who try to achieve the same naturally, at risk of eating disorders and other serious health threats.
And they are robbing them of success and income.
Now is a good time to remember how doping is executed and why dopers occasionally test positive.
THREAD
The window of time an illegal substance shows up in a test depends on the substance and its half-life.
Athletes get tested in- and out of competition (IC/OOC).
The full decision presented against
#ShelbyHoulihan
is pretty conclusive highlighting the nandrolone present is consistent with doping and NOT accidental ingestion.
The report demonstrates how Houlihan's defense, consuming pork offal is next to impossible to return her AAF

You can obviously eat like him but be aware that to look like him you will swallow and inject drugs that shrink your balls and increase your risk for heart diseases and cancer drastically, possibly leading to premature death.
But yeah, eat like him.
For those of you who weren’t cycling fans in 1998.
Festina Affair
20 years since, nothing has changed.
10 years ago we heard the lies of a “new generation”.
Today was just another example that nothing will change.
Reducing world’s best sport to pedaling as hard as you can for as long as you can, merely shows incompetence and disrespect.
But maybe I’m just a dinosaur.
"Virtual" racing could be coming to the Giro next year — it's potentially a huge market that teams, UCI, organizers all trying to get involved with — how far will the reach go?
Roglic & Dumoulin part of Aderlass investigation.
Preidler: “Dumoulin was at altitude camp I wasn’t allowed to be at, even at own cost. He came back flying, won giro.”
“I never understood how Roglič went from ski jumper to winning GTs. Also, Schmidt deposited blood in Slovenia.”
Ugo De Rosa was a true maestro of frame building. It was my dream as a kid to ride one of his bikes. Meeting him was an honor, what a humble gentleman. And when De Rosa sponsored GFNY, it felt unreal. My Protos 2 is still the best bike I ever had.
RIP, and hugs to
Most cycling journalists have been rather mute over the latest doping scandal. If anything, you hear about rogue riders.
And a guy yells at me that I am making cycling look bad.
I’ve been part of this sport since 1990. Nothing ever changed in any of those years. Stop pretending.
Froome closer to his true self now. His results are similar to pre-Sky.
Drugs, motors and protection are the holy trinity.
Without it, you’re just pack fodder.
4-time TdF winner? What a sad show this sport has become.
