Women gained voting rights in municipal elections in Turkey.
They got full rights to vote and be elected 4 years later, but in 1933 women became eligible to run for muhtar, with Gülkız Ürbül (aka Gül Esin) becoming Turkey's first female muhtar.

The Turkish government officially requested foreign countries use Turkish names for cities in Turkey.

The Bosphorus Bridge was inaugurated, becoming the longest bridge in the world outside the US at the time.
Known today as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, about 180,000 cars cross it daily. When fully loaded, the mid-span sags 90 cm (as intended).

The Surname Law was adopted, requiring all Turkish citizens use last names.
Muslims had to drop titles like Hoca and Efendi, while many minorities had to use Turkish renditions of their names. For ex, some Greeks replaced "-ides" with "-oğlu."
