@Kleisthenes2 Connoisseurs of Dr Mcallister’s work will also remember her insightful remarks on Richard Dawkins - eg “Fuck Dick Dawkins and why the fuck are we asking him about his reckons on Mātauranga Māori when he is a racist.” and “Oh not that fucking twat Dick Dawkins again.”

@Kleisthenes2 Well yes, if you’re against free speech in some circumstances, at least be honest about it.

@extrommeda @InquiryOpen I guess that depends on how they mark it. It is not clear if you could still pass while, for example, failing on outcome 1, because you think that Te Tiriti is of no relevance to your field of study, or outcome 2 because you can make no sense of the concept of "positionality".

@AnalysisFact @skdh For some definition of “calculus”. Quite a few things in Spivak’s book, for example, weren’t known in 1687.

@PronouncedHare But there’s so much to complain about. We’re just trying to keep you informed.

@andrew_lilico I forget how Christians explain Luke 14:26 away: "If any man come to Me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple."

@InquiryOpen We just don’t know what we don’t know, and we can't whistle it either. It’s important we accept the un-knowing.

Andrew Gelman is not happy with @seanmcarroll . Would be interested to see a response.

@Kleisthenes2 I wonder if Warren Zevon was aware of Juthwara. Personally I've always been a fan of St Sexburga of Ely, which would be a good name for a chain of restaurants, and her sister St Etheldreda, who married two men and refused to sleep with either of them

@InquiryOpen Careful now, you might get accused of disinformation by the NZAS. Even the Big Things project is apparently a study of tourist perceptions with fairly clear value to our economy.

@Kleisthenes2 @mangereman @Happykumara I agree with that, and the celestial spheres sort of nonsense is infuriating. But I personally think this sort of stuff is very cool, and I'm happy to fund it:

@AllanSims15 @TaxpayersUnion I must confess I was puzzled why dead kids would need grommets any more than kauri trees need whale song, but then I realised it was a typo.

@InquiryOpen I did very much like Pierre Bourdieu's final book on this topic, which is a clear and honest attempt to think about the issues.
